Rockies | Brandon Barnes leading off

Fri, 29 May 2015 13:27:24 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Brandon Barnes is batting first and playing center field against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, May 29.

Fantasy Tip: While it isn't a plus-matchup with opposing starter Cole Hamels pitching well of late, Barnes ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) still warrants flier attention in FantasyScore contests Friday. He is 9-for-21 with a 1.074 OPS through nine games this season.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon sitting vs. Philly

Fri, 29 May 2015 13:16:47 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon is not in the starting lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, May 29. OF Brandon Barnes is leading off and playing center field Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Blackmon ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. Facing a tough lefty likely provides an opportune time to provide a night off for Blackmon. Barnes ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is off to a torrid start since being recalled this season, as he is 9-for-21 with a 1.074 OPS through nine games. Consider him a worthy low-priced flier Friday. Just note opposing starter Cole Hamels has been dealing lately, so it isn't an ideal matchup.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez scratched

Mon, 25 May 2015 09:12:17 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (illness) has been scratched from the starting lineup Monday, May 25, because of an illness. OF Brandon Barnes will move to right field, and OF Charlie Blackmon will start in center field.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should look for an update on Gonzalez ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) after the game to see if he will miss multiple games. Blackmon ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) was scheduled to sit out the game but will take Gonzalez's spot in the lineup and could be a solid starting option.

Rockies | Brandon Barnes delivers in first start

Thu, 21 May 2015 17:00:41 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Brandon Barnes made his first start of the season Thursday, May 21, one day after being called up from Class AAA Albuquerque, and went 4-for-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored.

Fantasy Tip: Barnes received extensive playing time as a member of the Houston Astros in 2013 and the Rockies last year but never made much of his opportunities. Considering the Rockies already have a loaded outfield, there's probably little to take in here, especially since Barnes could produce only a .205/.266/.364 batting line in the minor leagues. Barring another injury to Colorado's outfield, Barnes is only a DFS play on FantasyScore.

Thu, 21 May 2015 00:53:51 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Drew Stubbs was sent to Class AAA Albuquerque on Wednesday, May 20. OF Brandon Barnes was recalled in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: This should come as little surprise for owners of Stubbs ($2,700, 5.4% of cap), who have watched him struggle at the plate. Remove Stubbs from your lineup.

Rockies | Corey Dickerson out, Kyle Parker starting

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 09:30:27 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Corey Dickerson (wrist) is out of the lineup Wednesday, July 9, after hurting his wrist Tuesday, July 8. OF Kyle Parker will make the start at first base, and OF Brandon Barnes is in left field.

Fantasy Tip: It appears as though Dickerson's injury is a day-to-day situation. The Rockies are facing a left-handed pitcher today, so perhaps the Rockies use Parker at first base against southpaws to give Justin Morneau a break.

Rockies | To mix and match in CF

Fri, 04 Apr 2014 14:54:37 -0700

Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss said he plans to rotate players in center field, despite the fact that OF Charlie Blackmon has started there three times in the first five games. OF Corey Dickerson is another left-handed option, and OFs Drew Stubbs and Brandon Barnes swing from the right side. "We'll mix and match," said Weiss. "We have a lot of options. If a guy doesn't start, he can come into the game later as a pinch-hitter, pinch-runner or for defense."

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon is hot to start the season, but the other outfielders will see plenty of chances. Owning any of these options is tough to do in standard mixed leagues because of the uncertainty of PT on a daily basis.
