Rockies | Colorado sitting two starters

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 12:38:36 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Ben Paulsen and C Tony Wolters are not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood Sunday, April 24. OF Gerardo Parra will start in left field, while OF Brandon Barnes will start in center field and is batting first. C Dustin Garneau will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Barnes is hitting .286 so far this season with three of his six hits being extra base hits. Barnes could be a cheap sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues. Garneau has gone 2-for-7 at the plate this season but is not a great fantasy option.

Rockies | Two Rockies take a seat

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 15:18:47 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon and OF Gerardo Parra are out of the lineup Saturday, April 9, with OF Ryan Raburn hitting sixth and OF Brandon Barnes hits eighth. 2B DJ LeMahieu bumps up to the leadoff spot against left-handed San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz.

Fantasy Tip: Raburn and Barnes aren't worth the start. LeMahieu hit lefties at a .294 clip the last three years, and he's worth the upper-echelon start.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon, Gerardo Parra sitting

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 10:10:36 -0700

Colorado Rockies OFs Charlie Blackmon and Gerardo Parra are out of the lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed SP Patrick Corbin Wednesday, April 6. OF Brandon Barnes is in center and hitting eighth, while OF Ryan Raburn is in left and batting sixth. Also, 2B DJ LeMahieu moves up to the leadoff spot Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Raburn, who slashed .325/.415/.589 with all eight of his homers against lefties in 2015, to start often against southpaws. Because of his dominance of that handedness, he's an effective bargain option in daily games. LeMahieu is off to a fine start and gains added value in daily games today, as well.

Rockies | Gerardo Parra set for starting job

Thu, 28 Jan 2016 14:23:12 -0800

Colorado Rockies OF Gerardo Parra will be left with a starting spot to win in the outfield after the Rockies traded OF Corey Dickerson to the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, Jan. 28. Parra can play left with OF Charlie Blackmon in center field and OF Carlos Gonzalez in right. OF Brandon Barnes will be the fourth outfielder and fill in everywhere.

Fantasy Tip: Parra had career highs in batting average (.291), home runs (14) and runs (83) last year with the Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles. Coors Field was the best possible landing spot for him, and now he's in a starting role. He could improve on his solid 2015 season with the Rockies, and he should be a target in the later rounds of all mixed leagues.

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 17:12:15 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Barnes ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) can be dropped in all fantasy formats. Kyle Parker ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) could receive increased playing time in left field but he is only batting .163 this season and is not a great FantasyScore option.

Rockies | Charlie Blackmon out with stiff neck

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 16:13:19 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon (neck) was a late scratch due to a stuff neck Wednesday, Sept. 23. OF Brandon Barnes replaces Blackmon in center field, and Barnes is batting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to replace Blackmon ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) in your lineups in all fantasy formats, especially at FantasyScore. Barnes ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is a potential flier for daily contests Wednesday, but it is worth noting, he only owns a .395 slugging percentage at Coors Field this season. You should be able to find more upside around his salary at FantasyScore Wednesday.

Rockies | Three Rockies regulars out

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 15:47:55 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes, OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Justin Morneau are not in the lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed SP J.A. Happ Tuesday, Sept. 22. SS Cristhian Adames is starting at the 6 and hitting second, OF Brandon Barnes is starting in left field and hitting eighth, while C Wilin Rosario is starting at first base and batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Happ has been tough on all teams since being traded to the Pirates, but he'll face a new challenge entirely at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Still, Adames ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) and Barnes ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) remain nothing more than desperation flier picks for salary cap relief. Rosario ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has slightly a little more intrigue as a deep sleeper.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez sitting vs. Dodgers

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 16:18:03 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (foot) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 16. OF Brandon Barnes is starting in right field and batting eighth against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: After a scorching mid-season stretch, Gonzalez ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) has six home runs in September already to give him 27 over his past 66 games. He fouled a ball off his foot Tuesday, Sept. 15, so you'll want check back for an official update on the severity of his injury. Barnes ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is nothing more than a low-priced flier at FantasyScore Wednesday. He has a .595 OPS over 100 at-bats since the All-Star break.
