Nationals | Ross Detwiler won't start this weekend |
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 14:06:58 -0700
Washington Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (oblique) has made nice progress, but he won't make a start this weekend. He threw two innings of a simulated game Wednesday, June 5, and will make a rehab start in the minors Monday, June 10.
Fantasy Tip: Detwiler should be expected to return to the rotation after his minor league start, but oblique issues are tricky, so a minor setback could be meaningful. With Stephen Strasburg (lat) also on the DL, the Nats are running out of starting options. Nate Karns will continue to fill in for Detwiler. Ross Ohlendorf or Craig Stammen are options to replace Strasburg.

The Washington Nationals will place SP Stephen Strasburg (lat) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, June 5, according to manager Davey Johnson.
Fantasy Tip: Strasburg didn't really have a setback, but his lat is still tight after throwing Wednesday. The Nats will back date his DL stint to Saturday, June 1, and the team expects him to make only one rehab start and return as early as June 16. It could be worse. The fill-in options in his expected short absence are thin, and Craig Stammen likely makes the most sense. Any replacement's stay in the rotation won't be long enough to warrant much fantasy attention.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg had been feeling oblique |
Sat, 01 Jun 2013 09:51:15 -0700
Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) said his oblique had been bothering him in recent starts before it caused him to leave his start early Friday, May 31. "It's something that's been nagging a little bit the last few starts, and I've been pitching really well, so I didn't really think about it too much," said Strasburg, who went just two innings -- the shortest start of his career -- before being removed. "There's a lot of times you go out there and you don't feel 100 percent. You've got to go out there and gut through it."
Fantasy Tip: Oblique strains usually always require disabled list stints, especially for pitchers. We fully expect Strasburg to need to miss at least one start, if not two, depending on the results of his examination Saturday. You should prepare for the same thing. Craig Stammen could join the rotation if Strasburg has to be placed on the DL.
