Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:55:50 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Marco Estrada (hamstring) threw a 45-pitch side session Monday, June 17. If he receives clearance in a visit scheduled with a team physician Wednesday, June 19, he will pitch for Class A Wisconsin in a minor-league rehab appearance. Estrada is likely to need only one minor-league rehab appearance, according to manager Ron Roenicke.
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 09:58:23 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Marco Estrada (hamstring) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. The club has recalled P Tyler Thornburg from Triple-A Nashville to take Estrada's place on the roster. Writer Tom Haudricourt speculates that Thornburg was probably called up to take Estrada's next turn, which comes on Saturday, June 8, against the Philadelphia Phillies, unless Milwaukee needs him out of the bullpen beforehand. Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how long Estrada will be sidelined, but it could be more than the minimum based on previous reports. Thornburg is an interesting prospect, but as Haudricourt notes, he's not had a good season for the Sounds, so fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach. The Brewers could end up recalling and going with Mike Fiers, who has also disappointed this season.
Tue, 04 Jun 2013 05:11:14 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Marco Estrada (hamstring) strained his left hamstring Monday, June 3. Estrada felt a pop when executing a pitch and tore the hamstring in the same leg in 2009. Fantasy Tip: He's likely to land on the disabled list and could be out 4-6 weeks depending on the severity. Mike Fiers could return to the majors to replace him. However, he has a 7.25 ERA and cannot figure it out this season. Johnny Hellweg is another option. He is 4-4 with a 3.65 ERA at Triple-A Nashville. However, he has walked 39 batters in 56 2/3 innings. The team will likely await SP Chris Narveson's (finger) return from the DL.
Fri, 10 May 2013 13:53:50 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Hiram Burgos has been put back into the starting rotation, and he'll start against the Cincinnati Reds Saturday, May 11. Burgos had skipped his turn to allow other starters to remain on schedule with two days off this week. SP Marco Estrada has been moved back two days to face the Pittsburgh Pirates. Fantasy Tip: Burgos is a commodity for NL-only leagues. He doesn't have dominant stuff but possesses a diverse arsenal and stays around the plate. His matchup with Cincy isn't intriguing at all in his return to the rotation.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 10:03:21 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Kyle Lohse will make $4 million this year with $7 million deferred to 2016-2018, plus $11 million in each of the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He can make an extra $1.05 million in performance bonuses; $350,000 each for the three seasons that he tops 190 innings. The team is already set in their rotation with SPs Yovani Gallardo, Marco Estrada, Wily Peralta, Chris Narveson and Mike Fiers. They may choose to carry Lohse as part of their 13-man staff to begin the year, and Lohse said he should be game-ready shortly. Fiers and Peralta have minor league options left, so they are the most likely to be bumped from the rotation to make room for Lohse when he's ready. Both young pitchers have struggled this spring, too. Fantasy Tip: Now that Lohse has a team to pitch for, he's definitely worthy of a draft pick in all formats. He has excellent control, but isn't as dominant as 2012 suggests. He also has struggled in his career at Miller Park, confines not as friendly to hurlers as his old digs in St. Louis.
Sun, 27 Jan 2013 11:34:53 -0800 Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke hinted that SP Wily Peralta is the favorite to win the No. 3 spot in the starting rotation, behind SPs Yovani Gallardo and Marco Estrada. This would leave SPs Chris Narveson, Mike Fiers and Mark Rogers to battle for the final two spots in the rotation.
Fri, 18 Jan 2013 11:35:32 -0800 Milwaukee Brewers SP Marco Estrada and RP Burke Badenhop avoided arbitration Friday, Jan. 18, by signing one-year deals. Estrada will make $1.955 million in 2013 while Badenhop will make $1.55 million.
Mon, 14 Jan 2013 17:39:10 -0800 Milwaukee Brewers SP Marco Estrada (Mexico) and OF Carlos Gomez (Dominican Republic) have both expressed interest in playing in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
Sun, 30 Dec 2012 22:55:09 -0800 Milwaukee Brewers SP Marco Estrada might be the closest thing to a lock, outside of SP Yovani Gallardo, for one of the team's five rotation spots. He posted 4.93 strikeouts per walk to rank fourth in the majors. He will be arbitration-eligible for the first time.
Thu, 13 Dec 2012 14:26:19 -0800 The Milwaukee Brewers made an offer to SP Ryan Dempster before he signed with the Boston Red Sox. Dempster's agent, Craig Landis, said they never countered Milwaukee's offer. SPs Marco Estrada, Chris Narveson, Mike Fiers, Wily Peralta and Mark Rogers figure to compete for rotation spots in spring training.
