Giants | Frisco bullpen not getting it done

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 18:10:41 -0700

San Francisco Giants RPs Santiago Casilla and Sergio Romo have been struggling lately, particularly against left-handed hitters. Over the past 20 at-bats, lefties are hitting .328 against Casilla, and .450 off of Romo. RP Javier Lopez was used Monday, Aug. 3, against a lefty to start the ninth inning, but manager Bruce Bochy plans to stick with Romo setting up Casilla for now.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners in standard formats have been frustrated with the duo, but for now it appears to be status quo in San Francisco as Bochy lets each pitcher work through their problems rather than demote them to less stressful situations to iron out their issues.

Giants | Sergio Romo gets first save

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 06:07:18 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo pitched the final 1 1/3 innings Saturday, July 18, to pick up his first save of the season, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Romo has a phenomenal 12.56 K/9, but Santiago Casilla hasn't blown a save since July 1. Casilla should be safe in the closer's role, but Romo is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.

Giants | Santiago Casilla out a few days

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 08:23:06 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Santiago Casilla (arm) will be given a few days off due to arm fatigue, according to manager Bruce Bochy. RPs Sergio Romo and Javier Lopez will close out games based on matchups.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is the righty, has the experience and will probably see the bulk of the opportunities with Casilla out. He's likely gone in NL-only leagues, but if you're fetching for saves in mixed leagues, grab him.

Giants | Sergio Romo injured

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 05:08:33 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (knee) suffered a hyperextended knee Tuesday, June 23, against the San Diego Padres and left the game. His status was not immediately known.

Fantasy Tip: If it's just a hyperextended knee, Romo could miss a very small amount of time or be considered day-to-day. Jeremy Affeldt and Santiago Casilla could see save chances if Romo is unable to pitch.

Giants | Sergio Romo to see save chances?

Sat, 04 Apr 2015 12:22:40 -0700

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said RP Sergio Romo could be used in certain ninth-inning situations this season based on matchups, although he reiterated that RP Santiago Casilla is still the team's closer.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be good news for owners who selected Romo as a handcuff option in fantasy baseball drafts. If Casilla gets off to a slow start this season while Romo thrives, he could easily regain San Francisco's closing job.

Giants | Sergio Romo cleared to resume pitching

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 12:30:54 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (shoulder, hand) threw a bullpen session Saturday, March 7, and has been cleared to pitch in Cactus League games.

Fantasy Tip: Romo will likely begin the season as a setup man to Santiago Casilla but could wind up regaining his ninth-inning role if Casilla struggles. He may be worth drafting in the later rounds of NL-only and mixed leagues as a handcuff option.

Giants | Sergio Romo feeling fine

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 11:41:04 -0800

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo's (shoulder, hand) shoulder is feeling better and should be fine even though his pitching hand was hit by a ball while he was running, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: Romo could take a few days off to let things heal, but it looks like he should be fine for the regular season. He likely will start the season as a setup man but could be a closer option if Santiago Casilla struggles in the job. Owners could consider selecting Romo in one of the later rounds of mixed league drafts as a possible handcuff to Casilla.

Giants | Sergio Romo has sore shoulder

Thu, 19 Feb 2015 11:20:01 -0800

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (shoulder) is being held back in camp as a precaution with a tender shoulder, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Romo hasn't had any tests on his shoulder yet.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is slated to open the 2015 season as the setup man to Santiago Casilla in SF. As a result, he won't get much fantasy love outside of serving as a handcuff to Casilla. Romo's sore shoulder isn't a good start to spring training.
