Sun, 19 May 2013 20:14:29 -0700 San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy used RP Chad Gaudin Sunday, May 19, in a tune-up inning against the Colorado Rockies rather than turning to RP Sergio Romo for some work. After the game, Bochy said Romo is fine, and both pitchers are available to pitch Monday, May 20.
Wed, 24 Apr 2013 20:14:11 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks OF Eric Hinske exchanged words with San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo Wednesday, April 24, as the rivalry between the teams heated up somewhat. "The last two nights he pitched, he asked the umpire where the pitch was, so we screamed from the dugout, 'It's outside'," Hinske said. "And then he popped (OF A.J. Pollock) out and he stared in our dugout, so we exchanged words. Good, clean baseball fun right there. Just friendly competition. We'll see him a lot more times."
Sun, 14 Apr 2013 07:11:01 -0700 San Francisco Giants RP Santiago Casilla picked up his first save of the season against the Chicago Cubs Saturday, April 13, tossing two scoreless innings while walking one and striking out two. Casilla, who earned 25 saves for San Francisco last season, was filling in for RP Sergio Romo because he had pitched in four of the last five games.
Sat, 13 Apr 2013 09:41:37 -0700 San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo is not expected to be used against the Chicago Cubs Saturday, April 13, after pitching four times in the last five days.
Fri, 12 Apr 2013 16:32:39 -0700 San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo blew his first save of the season against the Chicago Cubs Friday, April 12, by allowing a wind-aided home run to C Dioner Navarro. Romo has appeared in seven of the team's first 11 games of the season and as a result, manager Bruce Bochy may elect to rest Romo Saturday, April 13. Fantasy Tip: As Andrew Baggarly notes, Romo took the blown save rather well, which is something he's had trouble with in the past. That's good news for his maturation into the closing role. If Romo is indeed rested tomorrow, expect Santiago Casilla to have the opp to close out the game.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 12:24:33 -0700 San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy prefers to stay away from using RPs Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla Wednesday, April 10, but he will check with them before the game to see how they feel. Fantasy Tip: If neither Romo or Casilla pitch today in a save situation, Javier Lopez is probably your best bet to record a closure. He isn't worth adding for just one day, however, and it's not even certain yet that Romo or Casilla won't receive the save chance if one arises.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 12:24:25 -0700 San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he hopes to rest RPs Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla Wednesday, April 10, but will ask them if they are able to pitch if needed.
Thu, 21 Mar 2013 17:23:00 -0700 San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy plans to have a sit-down meeting with his bullpen soon. RP Sergio Romo will start the year as the closer, but RPs Jeremy Affeldt, Santiago Casilla and Javier Lopez will all see save chances throughout the year. Fantasy Tip: It was already known that the Gigantes wanted to limit Romo's innings heading into the 2013 season, and this news confirms that thinking. Romo has excellent command and peripherals but will slip a tad in value if this turns into a quasi committee.
Fri, 08 Mar 2013 10:26:40 -0800 The San Francisco Giants are a bit concerned with RP Sergio Romo's 26-pitch inning for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic Thursday, March 7, in which he blew the save against Team Italy. Romo didn't reach the 30-pitch limit that would prevent him from pitching Friday, March 8, so he could have another long outing today, and the Giants are concerned. Romo threw only 26 pitches in a game once last year, and manager Bruce Bochy would not have him throwing that many pitches in spring training.
Tue, 19 Feb 2013 16:15:22 -0800 San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo said he has a different mentality now when it comes to handling the toughness of the closer role. "I used to pitch with some attitude written on my forehead, so to speak, and I think I became a better pitcher not having that," Romo said. "Down the stretch my teammates told me I didn't need that to get the job done. So in all reality, it made me a better pitcher. I grew a little bit. And last year was definitely a humbling experience for me, good and bad. It definitely was."
