Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent LB Dhani Jones said that QB Jordan Palmer is not ready to step in as a starter if QB Andy Dalton isn't able to handle being under center immediately in his first year in the NFL. "Jordan Palmer's not the answer, absolutely not," Jones said. Asked what he would think of Jordan Palmer starting, Jones replied: "I would question the decision, absolutely."

Free-agent LB Dhani Jones (Bengals) is among the many candidates trying to replace comedian Gilbert Gottfried as the AFLAC duck, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. Gottfried was replaced after making insensitive jokes about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Jones has television experience hosting 'Dhani Tackles the Globe' on the Travel Channel.

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals LB Dhani Jones will try to play a rugby match in the United Kingdom, according to Scrum.com. Jones contacted Blackheath head coach Harvey Biljon asking if he could play a match. Jones will have three training sessions at Blackheath's Rectory Field, which will culminate in Jones "playing five or 10 minutes off the bench."

C.J. Mittica, of The Evening Bulletin, reports Philadelphia Eagles OG Todd Herremans and LB Dhani Jones were involved in a scuffle Saturday, Aug. 12. Herremans body-slammed Jones and landed a few blows. Jones got up and ripped off Herremans' helmet before the two were separated. Jones threw the helmet nearly 30 yards downfield and yelled, "All you do is hold!" Herremans passed it off as tempers flaring and Jones refused to comment.

Zach Berman, of PhiladelphiaEagles.com, reports the Philadelphia Eagles will have open competitions for both of their outside linebacker positions heading into training camp this season. Second-year LB Matt McCoy is the favorite to start at the weak-side linebacker (WILL) spot but will receive competition from free-agent signee LB Shawn Barber. Barber is a former Eagles player and is familiar with their defensive scheme. The competition for the strong-side linebacker position includes incumbent starter LB Dhani Jones. Third-round draft pick LB Chris Gocong will try and unseat Jones for the SAM linebacker spot but must make the transition from being a college defensive end to a NFL outside linebacker. Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, also, has not ruled out moving ILB Mark Simoneau or sixth-round draft pick ILB Omar Gaithers to the outside linebacker spot.

Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Eagles LB Dhani Jones is working hard to improve his game in an effort to retain his starting job at strongside linebacker. Jones is expected to get competition from LB Greg Richmond and rookie LB Chris Gocong for the starting job. Jones knows he had a disappointing season in 2005, but he's not letting that impact his preparation for 2006. "I committed myself in the off-season to being a better player, and I will be," Jones said. He worked out in Spain and California.

Susan Anasagasti, of the Miami Herald, reports Philadelphia Eagles LB Dhani Jones was arrested early Sunday. March 26, for failing to obey a police officer who ordered him to stop dancing on a street in South Beach, (Miami, Florida) police said. Police said Jones was obstructing traffic in the northbound lanes, and officers ordered him to get off the street. He refused and was arrested at the scene. Jones was taken to the station and was ''very apologetic,'' police said. Jones signed an affidavit with a promise to appear in court for arraignment.
