The Seattle Mariners assigned OF Trayvon Robinson, and Ps Matt Fox, Aaron Heilman, Sean Henn, Josh Kinney, Jeff Marquez and Oliver Perez to the minor league camp. Robinson was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

With Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (pectoral) out 4-6 weeks, the Seattle Mariners will use a rotation of outfielders in center to fill the gap. Names mentioned include OF's Ichiro Suzuki, Trayvon Robinson, Michael Saunders, Casper Wells and Chone Figgins.

Mariners | Trayvon Robinson tests hamstring in spring opener

Seattle Mariners OF Trayvon Robinson (hamstring) was able to play in the Cactus League opener Friday, March 2, against the Oakland Athletics. He came on as a substitute and had a single in his only at-bat. He missed time earlier in camp due to tightness in his left hamstring, but he tested the injury on the base paths. Robinson was cut down stealing.

Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (leg) and 2B Carlos Guillen (leg) were held out of running drills Thursday, Feb. 23, so that they could rest their legs. Neither will play in an intrasquad game Friday, Feb. 24, though both are expected to compete Sunday, Feb. 26. OF Trayvon Robinson (hamstring) and 1B Luis A. Jimenez (elbow) are still slowed, too, and Jimenez was given Thursday off.

Seattle Mariners OFs Trayvon Robinson (leg) and Franklin Gutierrez (leg) left outfield work early Wednesday, Feb. 22, after having their legs stiffen up during baserunning drills. Robinson left with a trainer and Gutierrez stayed for batting practice. INF Luis A. Jimenez (elbow) also left early with a sore elbow.

Seattle Mariners OF Trayvon Robinson is wearing prescription Oakley glasses this spring, and he hopes it will improve his vision this year. He has worn contact lenses the past two seasons but admits that his vision is not that bad. "And I can see a difference. I wore contacts last year on and off, but I was always wondering when I changed the degree of my head, I'd be blind for like a half-second. I've got astigmatisms. That's when I checked in with an eye doctor in Seattle," Robinson said. He isn't ready to go the Lasik surgery route, though.

Seattle Mariners OF Trayvon Robinson said he focused on using his hands more at the plate this offseason. Robinson will be competing with OFs Mike Carp, Casper Wells, Michael Saunders, Carlos Peguero, Johermyn Chavez and Chih-Hsien Chiang for the left field job.
