The Associated Press reports former New York Giants DT Keith Hamilton was sentenced Friday, Aug. 11, to three years of probation for beating his son. Police say Hamilton hit his son with an electric cord and surge protector, picked him up by his throat and elbowed him in the chest Feb. 1 after seeing poor grades on a report card. Hamilton's lawyer, Steven A. Varano, said afterward, "This was not a case, in my opinion, of abuse or neglect."

Peggy Wright, of the Daily Record, reports former New York Giants DL Keith Hamilton admitted he used excessive corporal punishment on his 12-year-old son in February by beating the boy with an electrical cord because he got a poor report card at his private school. Hamilton will avoid any time in jail for his plea to a third-degree charge of endangering the welfare of his son Feb. 1 at his home in Montville, New Jersey. He is already serving a probationary sentence in Morris County, New Jersey, for a drug offense. His plea new bargain calls for him to be sentenced in June to three additional years of probation, anger management and parenting counseling.

Lynch, of the Daily Record, reports former New York Giants DT Keith Hamilton was arrested at his home early Friday morning Feb. 3, after police signed two complaints against him, alleging that he repeatedly struck a 12-year-old child with an electrical cord. The complaints accuse Hamilton of committing aggravated assault by attempting to cause bodily harm to the child. The complaint also states that Hamilton endangered the welfare of a child at the time of the incident. Bail was set by Judge Joseph Falcone in the amount of $50,000.

The Associated Press reports former NFL DL Keith Hamilton has pleaded guilty to cocaine possession. Hamilton, who retired from the New York Giants in Feb. 2004, pleaded guilty to possession of about one gram of the drug and faces up to six months in jail.

The Associated Press reports New York Giants DT Keith Hamilton is considering retiring after this season. If head coach Jim Fassel is fired, Hamilton isn't sure he will fit into the new coach's plan. "I've always said I didn't want anybody running me out of town, talking about his skills are diminishing or he can't do what he used to do,'' Hamilton said. "That's not the way I want to go out. I wasn't foolish with my money. I saved my money for when that time came when I could not do some of the things I'm accustomed to being able to do, so I could say goodbye.'' Hamilton said he won't discuss his future until the last week of the season.

Updating previous reports, Margaret McHugh, of the Star-Ledger, reports New York Giants DT Keith Hamilton rejected a plea bargain on Thursday, Nov. 6, for the charges of cocaine possession he faces. By rejecting the plea deal, Hamilton denies his guilt, and will not face any penalties from the NFL this season. The NFL does not discipline players until they are proven guilty. Hamilton was indicted on Thursday, Nov. 6, but the case probably won't start for several months. When asked if he rejected the plea to make sure no verdict would be made until after the season, Hamilton said : "Those are (other people's) opinions. They're entitled to their feelings."

The Associated Press reports New York Giants DT Keith Hamilton, who was arrested May 22 on a variety of drug charges, had his case adjourned Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Morris (N.J.) County Court House. The new court date is Sept. 15. Hamilton has been offered a plea bargain if he pleads guilty to possession of cocaine, but that could lead to at least a four-game suspension by the NFL because he is a second-time offender. In November 1998, Hamilton was charged with possession of cocaine. It is believed Hamilton's legal representation will not accept the plea bargain and instead will attempt to delay any legal proceedings until Hamilton can get through this season.

He's currently being charged with possession of cocaine. The case has been postponed until Sept. 2. If he pleads guilty to the plea agreement, which is a third-degree possession of cocaine, the prosecution would be willing to dismiss the other charges against him, which include possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and motor vehicles offenses. The league could also step in after reviewing the situation.
