Thu, 23 May 2013 13:42:49 -0700 San Diego Padres assistant general manager A.J. Hinch said SP Clayton Richard (illness) made an adjustment while on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Tucson. "A.J. told me Clayton's arm slot looked higher and he had better sink and velocity on his fastball than we saw in April," said manager Bud Black. "And Clayton feels good today." Richard allowed two runs and six hits while walking none and striking out four with Tucson Tuesday, May 21. Richard could come off the disabled list to start early next week. Fantasy Tip: Downward movement on his pitches will help Richard be more successful, especially at PETCO Park. It's worth monitoring whether a higher arm slot will generate success for Richard upon his return.
Thu, 23 May 2013 11:05:43 -0700 The San Diego Padres optioned SP Burch Smith to the minors Thursday, May 23. Fantasy Tip: Smith is making room for the return of Clayton Richard (illness), who will slot back into the rotation. Richard has been terribly inconsistent and is basically a spot starter, at best, in deep mixed leagues for now.
Sat, 18 May 2013 11:40:50 -0700 San Diego Padres SP Clayton Richard (illness) allowed one run over six innings in his most recent rehab start for Triple-A Tucson. He is scheduled to make one more rehab start before being activated from the disabled list.
Tue, 14 May 2013 14:41:47 -0700 San Diego Padres SP Clayton Richard (illness) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Tucson Thursday, May 16. Fantasy Tip: Burch Smith, who made his major league debut, will be bumped from the rotation once Richard is ready to return from the disabled list.
Sun, 12 May 2013 11:12:03 -0700 San Diego Padres SP Clayton Richard (intestinal) will make a rehab appearance for Triple-A Tucson Thursday, May 16. He is eligible to be activated from the disabled list Monday, May 20.
Sat, 11 May 2013 11:22:35 -0700 San Diego Padres SP Clayton Richard (illness) is throwing a simulated game at Tropicana Field Saturday, May 11.
Mon, 06 May 2013 16:34:52 -0700 San Diego Padres manager Bud Black said SP Clayton Richard (illness) developed an inconsistent arm angle, which is responsible for his poor start to the season.
Mon, 06 May 2013 16:06:00 -0700 San Diego Padres SP Clayton Richard (illness) lost 12 pounds while dealing with an intestinal virus that he picked up around two weeks ago. "He's sick," manager Bud Black said. "He's getting a little better, then he sort of digresses, then he gets a little better. It's more than just how you get a virus, you throw up, you have diarrhea, two or three days later, you're a little weak, then you start gaining on it." Black thinks Richard's illness has affected his pitching. SP Tyson Ross will pitch out of the bullpen as the team will go with a four-man rotation with two off days in the next two weeks. Fantasy Tip: Richard can most likely be dropped in most mixed leagues. Don't lose sight of Ross in deep mixed leagues if he gets another shot at a starting rotation post later this year.
Sun, 05 May 2013 11:41:05 -0700 San Diego Padres SP Clayton Richard (intestinal) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of an intestinal issue, according to manager Bud Black. In a corresponding move, SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) has been activated from the disabled list.
Sun, 21 Apr 2013 11:31:46 -0700 Assuming he is well enough, San Diego Padres SP Clayton Richard (illness) could make his next start against the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday, April 23. He would fill the slot in the rotation vacated by SP Tyson Ross (shoulder), who was recently placed on the disabled list. Richard was unable to make his scheduled start against the San Francisco Giants Saturday, April 20, after coming down with a stomach virus.
