San Diego Padres SP Clayton Richard (shoulder) has been cleared to begin range-of-motion exercises after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery July 29. His activities will be light for the first six weeks after the procedure. Richard is expected to be ready for the start of spring training next year.

San Diego Padres SP Clayton Richard (shoulder) had surgery on his left shoulder Friday, July 29, and he was back in the clubhouse Sunday, July 31. "I knew something was wrong, and it's a relief to know it wasn't anything major," Richard said. "I'm going to rehab and plan to be 100 percent by spring training."
