The Seattle Mariners have activated C Miguel Olivo (groin) from the 15-day disabled list. In a corresponding move, the team optioned OF Casper Wells to Triple-A Tacoma.

Seattle Mariners OF Casper Wells is expected to be sent down to Triple-A Tacoma when C Miguel Olivo (groin) is ready to come off the 15-day disabled list. There was thought 3B Chone Figgins could be sent down but he is expected to stay with the team.

Seattle Mariners C John Jaso is hitting leadoff Wednesday, May 9, only the second time a catcher in club history has hit leadoff, joining former C Bob Stinson, who did it twice in 1978. 3B Kyle Seager moved to second base with 3B Alex Liddi at third. OF Casper Wells and 3B Chone Figgins are also in the lineup.

Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley (leg) and OF Michael Saunders (leg) are taking the day off Thursday, April 12, with 3B Alex Liddi and OF Casper Wells entering the lineup. Both Ackley and Saunders are dealing with normal leg soreness.

Seattle Mariners OF Casper Wells might see more playing time in left field with OF Mike Carp (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list. Wells did not play Thursday, March 29, against the Oakland Athletics because a right-handed pitcher was on the mound. He posted an .839 OPS against lefties and a .693 OPS versus righties.

With Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (pectoral) out 4-6 weeks, the Seattle Mariners will use a rotation of outfielders in center to fill the gap. Names mentioned include OF's Ichiro Suzuki, Trayvon Robinson, Michael Saunders, Casper Wells and Chone Figgins.

The Seattle Mariners signed OFs Mike Carp, Casper Wells, Trayvon Robinson and Michael Saunders and Ps Cesar Jimenez and Tom Wilhelmsen to one-year deals for the 2012 season Friday, March 2. Financial terms weren't given.

Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (pectoral) did not play again Wednesday, Feb. 29, and 3B Chone Figgins took his spot in center field. Figgins has been looking good at leadoff and is seeing plenty of pitches in the spot. The team is still waiting to hear on the severity of Gutierrez's injury. OF Michael Saunders could win the center field job if Gutierrez misses extended time. OF Casper Wells is more of a corner outfield type.

Seattle Mariners OF Casper Wells could become the team's fourth outfielder. He won't be in a strict platoon with OF Mike Carp in left field, at least not early on in the season. OF Michael Saunders poses a threat to Wells as an extra outfielder, too. The team doesn't want to overwork OF Franklin Gutierrez early in the season, so the fourth outfielder will also see chances in center field.

Seattle Mariners OF Trayvon Robinson said he focused on using his hands more at the plate this offseason. Robinson will be competing with OFs Mike Carp, Casper Wells, Michael Saunders, Carlos Peguero, Johermyn Chavez and Chih-Hsien Chiang for the left field job.
