Angels | Matt Joyce works out

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 17:42:21 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce (concussion) went through his first workout Monday, Aug. 3, since suffering a concussion July 26. He will be evaluated by a doctor Monday night.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will be back, but when he does return he will find the outfield landscape has changed dramatically after the team acquired several outfielders at the non-waiver trade deadline. FantasyScore players likely need not pay him any mind even when he does return.

Angels | Matt Joyce's time with Angels done?

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 09:27:49 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce (concussion), who is currently on the seven-day concussion disabled list, might not have a spot on the team anymore after the Angels traded for OFs Shane Victorino, David Murphy and David DeJesus in the last two days. Joyce was hitting .178 with five home runs and 21 RBI as the team's left fielder. General manager Bill Stoneman made no announcements on Joyce's future. Joyce was in an 0-for-23 slump and is hitless since July 9. Stoneman is hesitant to part with any of the team's top prospects, such as SP Sean Newcomb, in order to further improve the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: If you were holding onto Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) in a deep AL-only league, it's probably time to cut him. Victorino, Murphy and DeJesus could all see consistent playing time in platoon roles in left field and at designated hitter, but it could be a frustrating situation for fantasy owners to tread through.

Angels | Matt Joyce to lose playing time

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 16:22:33 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce is likely to have his playing time greatly reduced following the acquisitions of OFs David DeJesus (Rays) and David Murphy (Indians) Tuesday, July 28.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) failed to contribute to the Angels through most of his 278 plate appearances this season. FantasyScore owners no longer need to give Joyce any consideration, or risk accidentally putting him in a lineup.

Angels | Matt Joyce to DL

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 14:18:54 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce (concussion) was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list Tuesday, July 28, and OF Efren Navarro was recalled from Class AAA Salt Lake in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap), who is hitting a putrid .178 (43-for-242) on the season, should only be held onto in the deepest of leagues. He's surely going to lose valuable playing time when he's back after the Angels acquired Shane Victorino in a trade yesterday.

Angels | Matt Joyce has concussion

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 10:57:12 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce (concussion) sustained a mild concussion in the win over the Texas Rangers Sunday, July 26, and he could need to go on the seven-day concussion disabled list. Joyce collided with SS Erick Aybar trying to catch a popup Sunday in shallow left field. Manager Mike Scioscia said the team is still evaluating Joyce, but they are leaning toward putting him on the DL. Joyce said he felt alright aside from a minor headache and some sensitivity to light.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap), who is hitting only .178 (43-for-242), is a candidate to be dropped in even the deepest of leagues if he goes on the DL. Daniel Robertson ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is a candidate to see regular playing time in left field as a result, and you should look to add him in deeper AL-only leagues if you're in need of an outfielder.

Angels | Matt Joyce will not start

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 15:03:21 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis Friday, July 24. OF Daniel Robertson will start in left field and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Robertson ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is hitting .289 this month with three RBI during that span and could be a cheaper option for owners to consider.

Angels | Matt Joyce wants answers

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 18:07:45 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce was stuck in an 0-for-21 slump as of Thursday, July 23. "It seems like as much as Matt's worked toward getting where he wants to be, it seems like at times he's moving farther away from it," Manager Mike Scioscia said. "He's working hard at it. He's frustrated. He wants to contribute. Right now Matty's not attacking the ball like he can. He hasn't really for the lion's share of the season."

Fantasy Tip: Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has dropped his batting average to .179 for the season, and he doesn't have enough upside to justify taking the risk on FantasyScore.

Angels | Matt Joyce returns to lineup

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 18:02:30 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce re-enters the lineup for Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox Monday, July 20. Joyce will start in left field and hit sixth in the lineup against RHP Steven Wright. 1B C.J. Cron comes out of the lineup in the corresponding roster move.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has hit all five of his home runs for the season against right-handed pitching. While it's difficult to trust the .201 batting average, Joyce does have enough power upside to be considered for use in GPP tournaments.

Angels | Matt Joyce sitting out

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 11:46:58 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriguez in the first game of a doubleheader Monday, July 20. OF Daniel Robertson will start in left field and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is out of the lineup since the team if facing a left-handed pitcher. Robertson ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has posted a solid .261 batting average this month but has only one RBI during that span, and owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options.

Angels | Matt Joyce starting in LF

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 14:00:26 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce is starting in left field and hitting eighth in the order Saturday, July 18, against the Boston Red Sox and RHP Rick Porcello.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has been a disappointment for the Angels this season, but he is hitting over .200 against righties and all five of his home runs have come against right-handers this season. Joyce can be used as a very risky play in GPP tournaments.
