Angels | Matt Joyce to play Wednesday

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:59:42 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce (hamstring) did some running drills Tuesday, March 24, and is expected to start in left field Wednesday, March 25, if he feels good. Joyce has played in only one game, as the designated hitter Monday, March 23, since March 16.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce figures to see more playing time in 2015 because of the uncertainty surrounding Josh Hamilton (shoulder). Joyce reached double-digit homers four straight seasons from 2010-2013 with the Tampa Bay Rays, and if he sees consistent at-bats, he can be useful in deep mixed leagues for outfield depth.

Angels | Matt Joyce still sidelined

Sun, 22 Mar 2015 09:11:02 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Joyce has been dealing with some minor injuries this spring but should be ready for the regular season if he is able to play in a game soon. Joyce could receive regular playing time early in the season, which could make him an option in the later rounds of drafts.

Angels | Matt Joyce scratched with hammy strain

Thu, 12 Mar 2015 16:45:37 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce (hamstring) was scratched Thursday, March 12, because of a strained hamstring. The injury is not believed to be serious.

Fantasy Tip: The potential of everyday at-bats lands Joyce in the late-round-flier conversation. The biggest concern, though, is whether he can handle left-handed pitching, as he has just 323 career at-bats against southpaws. Continue to check back for updates on the severity of his injury and monitoring his progress this spring, especially against lefties.

Angels | Matt Joyce has stiffness in side

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 11:21:55 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce (side) took the last few days off due to stiffness in his right side, but he expects to return to the spring lineup Tuesday, March 10. Joyce felt "great" after taking some swings Monday, March 9.

Angels | Matt Joyce set to remove platoon label?

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 14:41:39 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce will work extensively against left-handed pitching during spring training, according to hitting coach Don Baylor. Joyce is expected to receive ample at-bats against lefties in games but will also be scheduled for extra work in the cage and against the breaking-ball machine. "I don't want him looking over his shoulder every time a lefty comes in, thinking he's going to get pinch-hit for," Baylor said. "I'm trying to get him out of that mentality. He's on a new ballclub now."

Fantasy Tip: There is an opening for everyday at-bats for Joyce with Josh Hamilton's status up in the air. Joyce has only 323 career at-bats against left-handed pitching, though, so monitoring his progress this spring is advised. From 2011 to 2013 Joyce averaged 18 home runs per season in a platoon role, so there is upside in mixed leagues, especially if Joyce responds well this spring and earns the starting left field job.

Angels | Mike Trout could be third in lineup

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 13:44:28 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout will likely bat third in the lineup, between OF Matt Joyce and 1B Albert Pujols.

Fantasy Tip: The lineup is slowly falling into place for the Angels, who have a formidable lineup at the job with OF Kole Calhoun likely leading off. Trout will likely go at the top of many fantasy leagues, and Joyce's status could be fairly strong in leagues if his bat looks good this spring.
