Boston Red Sox SP Felix Doubront (head) was tested for a concussion after being hit in the head Tuesday, May 15, but he is fine and will start Thursday, May 17. P Rich Hill was hit with a ball in batting practice Wednesday, May 16, but appeared to be fine.

The Boston Red Sox optioned RP Justin Thomas to Triple-A Pawtucket. The move was presumably made to clear a spot for RP Rich Hill.

Boston Red Sox RP Rich Hill (elbow) worked a perfect seventh inning Wednesday, April 25, in the second day of a back-to-back rehab appearance with Triple-A Pawtucket. Manager Bobby Valentine said Hill will come off the 15-day disabled list "soon," perhaps as soon as Friday, April 27.

Boston Red Sox RP Rich Hill (elbow) made an appearance with Triple-A Pawtucket Tuesday, April 24, and he allowed a hit and a walk with a strikeout in a scoreless eighth inning, earning his first hold. Hill is scheduled to pitch again Wednesday, April 25, marking the first time he has worked in back-to-back games. It might be his final hurdle before he can return to the majors.

Boston Red Sox RP Rich Hill (elbow) has moved his rehab to Triple-A Pawtucket. He gave up three hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out 13 in five rehab outings with Single-A Greenville and Salem. He struck out the side in his outing with Salem Wednesday, April 18.

Boston Red Sox SP Andrew Miller (hamstring) will need at least one more rehab outing with Triple-A Pawtucket before he comes off the disabled list. He'll pitch again Thursday, April 19. SP Daisuke Matsuzaka (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday after throwing over 60 pitches in his last rehab outing. RP Rich Hill (shoulder) will pitch with Single-A Salem again Thursday.

Boston Red Sox SP Daisuke Matsuzaka (elbow) threw three innings in an extended spring game recently, throwing 49 pitches. He hit 94 mph with his fastball, but he's still trying to locate his slider. RP Rich Hill (shoulder) will pitch an inning with Single-A Greenville Tuesday, April 10, and SP Andrew Miller (hamstring) will join Triple-A Pawtucket in his rehab.
