Athletics | Rich Hill continues to surprise

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 23:43:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill allowed just four hits with no walks over seven scoreless innings while posting eight strikeouts Tuesday, April 26, against the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Hill lowered his ERA to 2.42 through five starts and he has six or more strikeouts in each of his past four outings. He has emerged as a must-start in all AL-only leagues, deeper mixed formats and DFS play.

Athletics | Rich Hill fans 10

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 20:05:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits while walking four and striking out 10 over six innings in a win over the New York Yankees Thursday, April 21.

Fantasy Tip: Hill has now fanned 10 in two of his last three starts, and while high pitch counts have made his susceptible to early exits, he can make a useful matchup play in daily games against free-swinging teams.

Athletics | Rich Hill fans 10 Mariners

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 05:32:52 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill struck out 10 batters while allowing one run on five hits and a walk through six innings during the Athletics' 6-1 win over the Seattle Mariners Saturday, April 9.

Fantasy Tip: Hill struggled this spring (11.25 ERA) and pitched just 2 2/3 innings in his season debut, however, this outing resembled the four-game run (1.55 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 11.2 K/9) he concluded 2015 with. There remains some risk with the veteran lefty, but for those who took a late-round flier on Hill, this was an encouraging outing. Hill now has 13 punchouts through 8 2/3 innings to start the campaign.

Athletics | Rich Hill starting vs. White Sox

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 12:52:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill will start against the Chicago White Sox Monday, April 4, after Oakland SP Sonny Gray (illness) was scratched because of food poisoning.

Fantasy Tip: Hill had a nice four-game run (1.55 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 11.2 K/9) to conclude 2015, but he posted an 11.25 ERA during spring training, including 15 walks through 14 innings. Additionally, squaring off against Chicago ace Chris Sale projects to limit Hill's run support. View Hill as an extremely risky start in all fantasy formats Monday.

Athletics | Sonny Gray scratched vs. White Sox

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 12:45:11 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (illness) has been scratched for his start against the Chicago White Sox Monday, April 4, because of food poisoning. Oakland SP Rich Hill will start in place of Gray Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Gray from your lineups Monday, especially in daily contests. Hill should be viewed as an extremely risky start given his weak spring (11.25 ERA) and short notice for the outing. Opposing White Sox ace Chris Sale isn't ideal, either. Stay tuned for updates on Gray, but it is likely he'll still make a start sometime this week.

Athletics | Rich Hill tosses best spring outing

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 15:48:31 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill allowed two hits, three walks and two runs through 4 1/3 innings during his final spring training start Wednesday, March 30. He struck out two batters, and manager Bob Melvin said it was the best Hill has pitched during spring training.

Hill said he was "ultra-aggressive, that was the biggest thing ... In attack mode right out of the gate," and he said his control was "night and day" better. "Everything came out of my hand the way I wanted to."

Fantasy Tip: This is a positive for those who utilized a late-round selection on Hill as a flier. He was filthy through four starts at the end of last season with a 1.55 ERA, a 0.66 WHIP and a 11.2 K/9. For those still drafting, Hill's encouraging start Wednesday should keep him on the sleeper radar as an upside hurler to target at the end of drafts.

Athletics | Rich Hill not having good spring

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 14:43:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill has allowed 10 hits, 13 earned runs, 12 walks, seven strikeouts and two home runs for an ERA of 15.26 in 7 2/3 Cactus League innings this spring in three starts.

Fantasy Tip: Hill sparkled at age 36 with the Boston Red Sox last year thanks to a change in arm slot that helped him fix his woeful control. It's just spring, but it looks like his command issues may have resurfaced. If he can fix those issues before the regular season, though, Hill is certainly worth a late-round flyer as a deep mixed sleeper.

Athletics | Rich Hill agrees with A's

Tue, 17 Nov 2015 23:31:41 -0800

Free-agent SP Rich Hill (Red Sox) agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, Nov. 17, pending a physical.

Fantasy Tip: Hill rejuvenated his value with four good starts for Boston late last season. Hill went 2-1 with a 1.55 ERA, a 0.66 WHIP and 36 K's in 29 innings. He'll be 36 when the season begins, and he has long struggled with injuries and control. He has some upside, though, as a SP5.

Red Sox | Rich Hill shuts out Orioles

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 19:47:51 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Rich Hill threw a two-hit shutout against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, Sept. 25, striking out 10.

Fantasy Tip: Hill ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has now struck out 10 batters in all three starts since joining Boston, and he owns a 1.17 ERA. His improbable run can't continue forever, but he is worth using as a source of cap relief at FantasyScore in the meantime.
