Fri, 07 Jun 2013 16:32:55 -0700 Miami Marlins SPs Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) and Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) figure to return to the team soon. Eovaldi will make what's expected to be his last rehab start with Double-A Jacksonville Sunday, June 9. Alvarez will throw 50 to 55 pitches in a simulated game Saturday, June 8. SPs Kevin Slowey or Tom Koehler could move to the bullpen to accommodate Eovaldi in the rotation. Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi will be an option for those seeking rotation help in deep mixed leagues. A pitcher-friendly environment in Miami will help his cause. Koehler makes more sense to be sent to bullpen duty when Eovaldi joins the club, but Slowey might not be far behind when Alvarez is ready to return.
Wed, 22 May 2013 19:54:38 -0700 Miami Marlins SP Kevin Slowey (lat) left his start Wednesday, May 22, against the Philadelphia Phillies due to a strained left latissimus muscle. He is considered day to day.
Fri, 19 Apr 2013 20:44:13 -0700 Miami Marlins SP Kevin Slowey allowed a run, four hits and a walk over six innings in a no-decision Friday, April 19, against the Cincinnati Reds. He also struck out four batters. "This is certainly one of the best stretches I've had, feelings-wise," Slowey said. "Nothing is bothering me." Fantasy Tip: Slowey is winless on the season despite an impressive 1.90 ERA. He is winless in the majors since 2010, a streak that includes 10 losses, several injuries and very little help from his offense. Despite the solid results, Slowey is still only worth a look as a back-end fantasy rotation guy in deeper NL-only formats.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 09:30:44 -0700 The Miami Marlins have revised their pitching rotation as a result of SPs Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) and Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) landing on the 15-day disabled list. SP Ricky Nolasco will start the season opener against the Washington Nationals Monday, April 1. SP Kevin Slowey, who was originally scheduled to be the No. 5 starter, will pitch Wednesday, April 3, and SP Wade LeBlanc will pitch the final game of the series Thursday, April 4. SP Alex Sanabia will start against the New York Mets Friday, April 5, Nolasco will pitch Saturday, April 6, and SP Jose Fernandez will make his MLB debut Sunday, April 7.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 09:23:43 -0700 The Miami Marlins have purchased the contracts of Ps Jose Fernandez, John Maine, Chad Qualls and Kevin Slowey, OF Austin Kearns, 1B Casey Kotchman and SS Chris Valaika.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 13:43:43 -0700 Miami Marlins SPs Ricky Nolasco, Nathan Eovaldi, Wade LeBlanc, Henderson Alvarez and Kevin Slowey will make out the team's five-man rotation to start the year.
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 00:15:26 -0700 Miami Marlins SP Jacob Turner has 18 hits allowed, 14 earned runs (9.69 ERA), nine walks and five strikeouts in 13 innings of work, numbers that will likely get Turner sent to Triple-A at the start of this week. Turner, who was projected as the fifth starter in the rotation, would be replaced by SP Kevin Slowey if Turner heads to the minors, and RP John Maine would slide into Slowey's long-relief role.
Sun, 17 Feb 2013 18:50:50 -0800 Miami Marlins SP Wade LeBlanc is still believed to be the favorite for the fifth rotation spot, but he'll need to hold off SPs Brad Hand, John Maine, Alex Sanabia, Kevin Slowey and Mitch Talbot, all who have prior starting experience in the majors.
Wed, 30 Jan 2013 20:32:43 -0800 The Miami Marlins will have at least 71 players in camp when the team opens spring training Feb. 11, and that includes 31 non-roster invitees. Of those 31 non-roster players, 14 are from the organization. The 17 minor-league free agents looking to catch on include Ps Jonathan Albaladejo, John Maine, Doug Mathis, Zach Phillips, Chad Qualls, Kevin Slowey, Jordan Smith, Mitch Talbot and Michael Wuertz. The non-roster minor-league free agents are C Craig Tatum, INFs Matt Downs, Nick Green, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Ed Lucas and Chris Valaika. The OFs are Jordan Brown and Austin Kearns. "It's a relatively large group and a lot of opportunity and I think there will be some good competition in a number of areas," team executive Larry Beinfest said.
Wed, 23 Jan 2013 09:39:00 -0800 The Miami Marlins signed free-agent SPs Kevin Slowey (Indians) and Mitch Talbot (Korean League) to minor league deals Wednesday, Jan. 23.
