Tue, 21 May 2013 19:08:36 -0700 Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley served as the cleanup hitter in manager Terry Francona's lineup Tuesday, May 21, with OF Nick Swisher (personal) on the paternity list. Brantley has now appeared in every spot in the order this season.
Sun, 19 May 2013 18:39:04 -0700 The Cleveland Indians talked with OF Michael Brantley and 2B Jason Kipnis about contract extensions during the spring, but neither agreed to a deal. Kipnis is five years away from free agency, while Brantley is three years away. The team will attempt to sign both players again after the season.
Sat, 18 May 2013 19:39:12 -0700 Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley was held out of the lineup Saturday, May 18, against the Seattle Mariners. He appeared as a defensive replacement late in the game. Fantasy Tip: Brantley is hitless over his past seven at-bats, but he remains a must-start in all AL-only leagues and most mixed formats, as he is still hitting .295 on the season.
Thu, 09 May 2013 12:54:14 -0700 Cleveland Indians OF Michael Bourn (finger) will be activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 10, and RP Scott Barnes has been sent to Triple-A Columbus to make room on the roster. Fantasy Tip: Get ready to put Bourn back in your lineup this weekend. It's unclear who will lose out the most in playing time in the outfield upon his return. Ryan Raburn has been swinging a hot bat, so Terry Francona might try to keep him in the lineup as much as possible at the expense of either Michael Brantley or Drew Stubbs.
Tue, 07 May 2013 11:48:36 -0700 Cleveland Indians OF Michael Bourn (finger) had his rehab game with Triple-A Columbus rained out Monday, May 6, but the team expects to activate him from the disabled list this weekend if he doesn't have any setbacks. Fantasy Tip: The return of Bourn will likely push red-hot Ryan Raburn to less playing time, although Terry Francona could choose to have him platoon in the outfield with Michael Brantley or Drew Stubbs.
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 14:49:17 -0700 The Cleveland Indians have stopped their contract negotiations on a multi-year contract extension with 2B Jason Kipnis. Kipnis said the talks ceased once the regular season started. He is slated to make $509,400 this season. The team is also reportedly negotiating with OF Michael Brantley on a multi-year deal. Kipnis is interested in starting talks up again after the 2013 season.
Wed, 03 Apr 2013 20:58:18 -0700 Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley tied a career high with four hits in five at-bats Wednesday, April 3, against the Toronto Blue Jays. It was Brantley's fifth career four-hit game.
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 21:06:03 -0700 Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley is emerging as a leader on and off the field. Manager Terry Francona wants him to embrace the role this season. "That's exactly what I told him, to just be himself," Francona said Wednesday, March 27. "He doesn't have a ton of time in the big leagues, but that doesn't mean he can't do that. I would love for guys to follow his example. He does everything right. He's easy, man. You just wind him up, let him go play and see how good he can be." Fantasy Tip: Brantley's numbers have improved across the board in each of the past three seasons. His average has risen from .246 to .266 to .288 over the past three seasons. His one-base percentage (.296, .318, .348), slugging percentage (.327, .384, .402) and OPS (.623, .702, .750) have each followed suit. While he won’t hit for a ton of power, he is a solid AL-only fantasy option, and a low-end outfield option in mixed formats.
Mon, 18 Mar 2013 13:45:14 -0700 The Cleveland Indians are discussing contract extensions for 2B Jason Kipnis and OF Michael Brantley. Brantley's long-term value is expected to be lower with his move from center field to left field, which could make the negotiations difficult. Fantasy Tip: Kipnis is the more valued commodity at second base, a position that runs very thin at talent in 2012. However, he's overvalued as a result. Brantley's main fantasy contributions are his speed and solid contact skills that will keep his BA from tanking. He's outfield depth in deep mixed formats.
Thu, 07 Mar 2013 15:12:06 -0800 Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (forearm) had the stitches removed from his forearm Thursday, March 7, and he might play in a game Sunday, March 10, as the team is being cautious. "We'll let him probably go a couple days," manager Terry Francona said, "where he does everything on the field, running the bases, taking balls off the bat, and then maybe Sunday we'll get him in a game. Maybe we'll start him for three or four innings. I think that's probably pretty reasonable."
