Angels | Yunel Escobar dealt to the Angels

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 12:46:57 -0800

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired INF Yunel Escobar from the Washington Nationals in exchange for RP Trevor Gott Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar had a bounce-back season in 2015 and posted an impressive .314 batting average. However, his counting stats don't have the same fantasy impact. Escobar scored 75 runs, hit nine home runs and drove in 56 RBI. It is modest production for a low-end middle infielder, and Escobar will have multiple eligibility across a few infield positions for the 2016 season.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar could be trade bait

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 10:08:08 -0800

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar could be a trade option this offseason after hitting .314 with a .790 OPS last year. The Nationals already have 2B Danny Espinosa, SS Trea Turner and 2B Wilmer Difo. Escobar is under contract for $7 million in 2016 with a $7 million team option for 2017. 3B Anthony Rendon will be entrenched at third base.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar had a career year in 2015, thanks largely in part to Rendon's early season injury giving him a shot to hold down the starting third base job. Even if Escobar remains in Washington, he's unlikely to see the kind of playing time that made him valuable in the majority of fantasy leagues. Expect some regression in 2016, so don't pay for his 2015 peak.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 11:05:09 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jacob de Grom Sunday, Oct. 4. INF Anthony Rendon will bat leadoff and play third base, while INF Trea Turner will bat second and play second base.

Fantasy Tip: Rendon ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is just 3-for-22 over the past week and should not be used in FantasyScore this afternoon. Turner ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief at this point.

Nationals | Bryce Harper rests

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 15:32:45 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 3, with 3B Yunel Escobar hitting third.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is 0-for-9 the last week and faces Matt Harvey, but he's having a comeback season. He's a low-end option worth consideration on FantasyScore.

Nationals | Still no Yunel Escobar vs. Atlanta

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 13:38:16 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (back) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. SS Trea Turner draws into the lineup and is batting second against Atlanta Braves SP Ryan Weber Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been dealing with upper back spasms since Sunday, Sept. 27, and his status for the remaining games is in question, especially with nothing on the line for Washington. Turner ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is 8-for-19 in September, and he stands as an upside source of cap relief for FantasyScore players Thursday.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar bothered by back spasms

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 17:35:26 -0700

Updating previous reports, Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (back) has been dealing with upper back spasms since Sunday, Sept. 27, during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies. He had hoped to return to the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 30, but asked to be taken out of the lineup after taking batting practice.

Fantasy Tip: As a result of Escobar's ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) injury, INF Trea Turner ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has played second base in each of the last three games, with INF Anthony Rendon ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) sliding over from the keystone position to the hot corner. Entering play Wednesday, Turner was 7-for-15 at the plate during the month of September and he could be a source of productive cap relief in FantasyScore if Escobar winds up missing a few more games.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar out vs. Atlanta

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 15:05:14 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (back) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 30. SS Trea Turner draws into the lineup and is batting second against Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: This is the third consecutive game Escobar ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has missed, and there is no indication of when he'll return to the lineup. Seasonal owners shouldn't be afraid to add immediate help for the final games of the year and replace Escobar, if needed. Turner ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has played well whenever called upon (.851 OPS through 28 plate appearances), and he checks out as an upside source of cap relief for FantasyScore players Wednesday.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar, Michael Taylor are injured

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 14:24:46 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (back) and OF Michael Taylor (knee) are injured, which is why they are not in the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 29. Taylor has knee swelling and Escobar is dealing with an upper back issue.

Fantasy Tip: With very few games left in the season, Washington might just choose to shut down Escobar ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) and Taylor ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) early since they are mathematically eliminated from postseason contention. Consider both of them very risky to close out the year on FantasyScore.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar, Michael Taylor resting

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 14:02:58 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar and OF Michael Taylor are both resting Tuesday, Sept. 29, against the Atlanta Braves. SS Trea Turner and OF Matt den Dekker are in the lineup, with Turner hitting second and den Dekker hitting seventh against Braves SP Matt Wisler.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) and Taylor ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) appear to be getting normal nights off from the lineup, and this is Escobar's second day off in a row. Escobar is hitting .125 against Wisler and Taylor is a .200 career hitter. Turner ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) could be a deep sleeper entering 2016, as the Nationals are high enough on him to let Ian Desmond walk via free agency.

Nationals | Nats regulars being rested

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 11:11:08 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar, SS Ian Desmond and OF Jayson Werth are all out of the lineup Monday, Sept. 28. 2B Anthony Rendon moves to third base and is hitting third, SS Trea Turner is starting at the 6 and hitting second and OF Matt den Dekker is starting in right field and hitting seventh against Cincinnati Reds SP Brandon Finnegan. 2B Dan Uggla draws a start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Turner ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has some appeal as a deep sleeper because of his upside on FantasyScore, but Rendon ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is realistically the only player here worth putting into your FantasyScore lineup. Despite no homers against lefties this year, he's batting .328 (19-for-58) against them.
