Angels | Yunel Escobar returns

Sat, 14 May 2016 16:08:33 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar (thumb) returned to the lineup Saturday, May 14, and he's hitting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar has been a bright spot with a .304-3-9 line. He faces a struggling Hisashi Iwakuma today, and he's a low-end option in DFS.

Angels | Yunel Escobar sitting out Friday

Fri, 13 May 2016 17:01:16 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar (thumb) is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 13. 3B Jefry Marte is starting at the hot corner and is batting eighth against Seattle Mariners SP Nathan Karns. OF Kole Calhoun moves up to the leadoff spot, with OF Mike Trout hitting second and 1B Albert Pujols hitting third.

Fantasy Tip: The Angels expect Escobar to be fine and possibly return to the lineup as early as tomorrow. That makes Marte one to avoid in all formats tonight and moving forward. Escobar has been a productive on-base man for the Angels at the top of the order but doesn't contribute much outside of average for fantasy owners.

Angels | Yunel Escobar injured

Fri, 13 May 2016 05:08:30 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar (thumb) jammed his thumb going after a ball in the eighth inning Thursday, May 12, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He is considered day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: As if the Angels needed anything more to worry about, now it appears the left side of their infield is hampered by injury. Escobar had a .301 batting average this season. Considering Cliff Pennington was also hurt Thursday and Brendan Ryan needs to man shortstop, the Angels may be forced to call up top prospect Kaleb Cowart if Escobar has to hit the DL for a length of time. So far no indication of that has been given, but stay tuned. The chances are this is nothing to worry about.

Angels | Yunel Escobar won't move to shortstop

Mon, 09 May 2016 16:17:43 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar will not be moved to shortstop in the wake of SS Andrelton Simmons' (thumb) injury, according to general manager Billy Eppler.

Fantasy Tip: That would've been nice for Escobar's fantasy value, but you can forget about it. The third baseman has a nice .301 average, but he won't help you in counting stats, especially with little help around him in the Angels lineup. Cliff Pennington should see regular at-bats at shortstop now, but he's strictly depth material in AL-only leagues with a career average of .244.

Angels | Yunel Escobar settling into leadoff role

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 16:14:14 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar has a .281/.347/.449 slash line with 10 runs, six doubles, three home runs, seven RBI and eight walks through 98 plate appearances to start the season.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar is a low-end option in deep mixed leagues, but he has upside to score plenty of runs leading off for the Angels, and he is capable of flirting with a .300 batting average. He hit .314 in 2015, after all.

Angels | Yunel Escobar hasn't struck out

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 10:34:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar has just five walks and no strikeouts in 47 spring at-bats. He's hitting .468 (22-for-47) with no home runs and four RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar peaked in 2015 thanks to an inflated hit rate with the Washington Nationals. He's now in a weaker lineup and a more pitcher-friendly environment. Don't let his high spring average fool you again. Escobar is, at best, corner infield insurance in cavernous mixed and AL leagues.

Angels | Yunel Escobar scratched

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 13:41:18 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar (eye) did not play Tuesday, March 22, due to left eye irritation.

Fantasy Tip: The odds are this injury isn't serious, so Escobar should be back for the next game. He's having an excellent spring and is making a strong case for being your backup 3B on fantasy rosters.

Angels | Yunel Escobar having fine spring

Fri, 18 Mar 2016 14:36:42 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar went 3-for-3 Friday, March 18, to improve to 12-for-30 (.433 batting average) this spring.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar's ownership should be limited to deep mixed and AL-only leagues, but he did have a solid season in 2015 and has no competition for at-bats this year. Escobar scored 75 runs, drove in 56 and hit .314 for decent three-category coverage. There is no power-speed upside here, though. His strong spring is encour

Angels | Yunel Escobar to lead off

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 09:34:23 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar is pretty much squared away as the leadoff hitter, according to manager Mike Scioscia. OF Kole Calhoun will hit second or fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Calhoun will benefit from hitting in either spot and is a high-end OF3. Escobar is a fringe MI grab in mixed leagues.

Angels | Yunel Escobar dealt to the Angels

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 12:46:57 -0800

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired INF Yunel Escobar from the Washington Nationals in exchange for RP Trevor Gott Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar had a bounce-back season in 2015 and posted an impressive .314 batting average. However, his counting stats don't have the same fantasy impact. Escobar scored 75 runs, hit nine home runs and drove in 56 RBI. It is modest production for a low-end middle infielder, and Escobar will have multiple eligibility across a few infield positions for the 2016 season.
