Nationals | No timetable for Anthony Rendon

Tue, 05 May 2015 09:02:12 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon (oblique) will have his minor league rehab assignment shut down after being diagnosed with an oblique strain Monday, May 4. Manager Matt Williams said there is no timetable for Rendon's return, but said 2B Yunel Escobar sat out 10 days without baseball activity with the same injury in spring training.

Fantasy Tip: The waiting game continues for a player that was drafted at the end of the first round in many leagues this spring. Escobar ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) continues to benefit from a starting role at the hot corner in Rendon's absence, and Escobar is hitting .311 (28-for-90) with two home runs and seven RBI. Hitting near the top of the Nats' order has helped him, and he remains a fine FantasyScore option while he's hot. Escobar had five hits Monday night.

Nationals | Career best for Yunel Escobar

Mon, 04 May 2015 22:19:35 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar had a career-high five hits (all singles) with a run scored and two RBIs Monday, April 4, against the Miami Marlins.

Fantasy Tip: Five hits is impressive, but they were all singles and not that great for FantasyScore players. Still, at just $2,100 (or 4.2% of cap) he easily exceeded salary expectations.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar back in the lineup

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 13:09:29 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B/2B Yunel Escobar (hand) is batting second and playing third base against the New York Mets Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) missed three games with the injury, and opposing pitcher Jacob deGrom is a tough matchup, so it might not be the best night to hone in on Escobar in FantasyScore contests. However, there is upside batting ahead of the heart of the order.

Nationals | Ian Desmond dropped in order

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 12:49:54 -0700

Washington Nationals SS Ian Desmond was dropped to seventh in the batting order Thursday, April 30, with 3B Yunel Escobar (hand) back in the lineup and hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Desmond ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is not only struggling in the field (nine errors), but he's also hitting only .225 (20-for-89) with one home run and five RBI in the early going. A move down in the order again isn't likely to appeal to those playing at FantasyScore. He's a weaker shortstop option against New York Mets starter Jacob deGrom Thursday evening.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar expected back Thu.

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 18:03:18 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (hand) is available on an emergency basis Wednesday, April 29. He was able to hit and field grounders before the game and his hand looked better. Manager Matt Williams said he expects Escobar will be ready Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners will want to give Escobar ($2,100; 4.2% of cap) at least a game or two to prove his health before plugging him back into the lineup. Plus, it won't be easy for him since he'll be up against New York Mets SPs Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey over the next two days if he does re-join the lineup Thursday.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar still out vs. Braves

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 14:10:29 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B Yunel Escobar (hand) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 29. Escobar suffered the injury Monday, April 27.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Escobar ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) in all formats. His absence has allowed Dan Uggla ($1,900, 3.8) to draw into the lineup, and Uggla had a monster five-RBI showing Tuesday, April 28. Still, Uggla is nothing more than a flier for FantasyScore players. Continue to check back for updates on Escobar's injury status and return timeline.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar uncertain for Wed.

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 20:54:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (hand) did not play Tuesday, April 28, against the Atlanta Braves, although he could have played "if he had to," according to manager Matt Williams. The skipper said Escobar's hand is "scraped up pretty good" after suffering an injury Monday, and the infielder still hasn't tried to grip a bat.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($2,100; 4.2% of cap) is uncertain for Wednesday, so FantasyScore owners should stay away from him until he can officially return to the starting lineup and make it through a full game without any lingering effects of his injury.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar out Tuesday

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 13:02:46 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (hand) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 28, against the Atlanta Braves due to a hand laceration. 2B Danny Espinosa is at third base, while 2B Dan Uggla is at second base.

Fantasy Tip: For Escobar ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) this was an expected move. Espinosa ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) will be a cheap source of production, and Uggla ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) should be avoided with a .135 batting average.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar to miss a game or two

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 21:38:39 -0700

Washington Nationals SS Yunel Escobar (hand) suffered lacerations on his hand during the game Monday, April 27, against the Atlanta Braves. X-rays did not reveal any fractures, although he expects to miss at least a game or two.

Fantasy Tip: If Escobar misses time it is likely Danny Espinosa ($1,800; 3.6% of cap) slides over to third base, while Dan Uggla ($1,900; 3.8% of cap) picks up starts at second base. That was the setup for manager Matt Williams once Escobar departed Monday.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar injures groin

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 19:12:10 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B/SS Yunel Escobar (groin) suffered a groin injury Friday, April 17, and he will be re-evaluated Saturday, April 18, before deciding if a trip to the disabled list is necessary.

Fantasy Tip: If Escobar misses some time, Dan Uggla ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is likely to join the lineup. However, Uggla has been a mess at the plate the last couple of seasons and can't be trusted at FantasyScore until he proves otherwise.
