The Cincinnati Reds recalled INF Mike Costanzo from Triple-A Louisville Saturday, May 12. In 34 games between Double-A and Triple-A, Costanzo was hitting .303 with six home runs and 24 RBIs.

Roch Kubatko, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Orioles IF Mike Costanzo is expected to hit in the middle of the lineup with Triple-A Norfolk, rather than stay in the majors come opening day. Costanzo will also be asked to play first and third with Norfolk, as well as catching every now and then. It is possible he will stay with the team until OF Jay Gibbons returns from his 15-game suspension.

Spencer Fordin, of Orioles.MLB.com, reports Baltimore Orioles 3B Mike Costanzo has been working out at third base and catcher during the early portion of spring training and said he will likely catch all through spring training. The move will likely increase his chances of making the team as a reserve player.

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Orioles 3B Mike Costanzo has been asked to report to spring training on Feb. 13, along with the pitchers and catchers, according to Roch Kubatko of the Baltimore Sun. The team believes he could reach the majors quicker if he is able to catch, in addition to playing third base. Costanzo told team president Andy MacPhail that he has caught pitchers in the bullpen before, but has never done anything quite like this. He likely will continue to take ground balls at first base during spring training, along with shagging fly balls in left field, in addition to working out at third base and behind the plate.
