The Associated Press reports veteran WR Jake Reed is ready to step in for the injured Donte Stallworth (hamstring) as the New Orleans Saints No. 3 WR this week. "We feel confident Jake will step in, and we don't miss a beat," Saints offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy said. "He's real proven." Reed said he's ready to play.

"Jake was with us when we won the NFC West title in 2000, and it was evident how much leadership he brought to our locker room. Everyone agrees we missed his presence last year. We also believe he can be a nice addition to our offense, particularly on third downs," said GM Randy Mueller.

As an update, Don Banks reports for CNN/SI free agent CB Dale Carter's (Vikings) deal with the New Orleans Saints is reportedly a seven-year contract. It averages between $4 million and $5 million, including a $3 million partially deferred signing bonus. Barring an unexpected last-minute turn of events, Carter and his brother, WR Jake Reed, are expected to sign the deals on Tuesday, when they make previously scheduled trips to New Orleans.
