Astros | Colby Rasmus snaps 0-for-29 slump

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 22:06:14 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus hit a two-run home run against the New York Yankees on Wednesday, July 27, to end a 0-for-29 stretch.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus partially blamed his struggles on an ear infection and hinted he was feeling better. His average dropped 20-plus points during that hitless streak, and without his usual power -- seven HRs in April, five since -- Rasmus is a fringe candidate even in deeper mixed leagues.

Astros | Three Astros starts not playing

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 14:12:23 -0700

Houston Astros OF Preston Tucker, OF Colby Rasmus and C Jason Castro are not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Tuesday, July 26. 3B Luis Valbuena will start at third base, while SS Alex Bregman will serve as the designated hitter. 1B Marwin Gonzalez will start at first base and is batting second. C Evan Gattis will start at catcher and is batting fifth. OF Jake Marisnick will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is currently on a nine-game hitting streak and has two RBI during that span. Gonzalez can be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues during his hot streak. Gattis should be an attractive option in leagues because he is hitting .278 with three home runs and five RBI over the last seven days. Marisnick is hitting .333 this month but is still not a strong fantasy option.

Astros | Colby Rasmus sitting vs. Yankees

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 13:28:20 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus is not in the starting lineup Monday, July 25. OF Preston Tucker is starting in left field and batting second against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus hit seven home runs in April and has just four since, as he's struggled to the point of finding himself out of the lineup frequently. He isn't worth a roster spot outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. Tucker is 3-for-8 with three extra-base hits since being recalled from the minors, and he's a potential flier in daily contests Monday.

Astros | Carlos Gomez takes a seat

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 10:08:50 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. INF Marwin Gonzalez moves to left field and is hitting second, while OF Colby Rasmus takes over in center field and is batting sixth against Oakland Athletics SP Daniel Mengden.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez's disappointing season continues with his .143 (8-for-56) average in July with two homers and 14 strikeouts. At this point, there isn't much hope for a turnaround, and he could start losing playing time as a result. It's hard to justify holding him in mixed formats.

Astros | Houston sitting three lefties

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 11:58:01 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus, 1B A.J. Reed and C Jason Castro are not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Mike Montgomery Sunday, July 17. 2B Jose Altuve will serve as the designated hitter, while 2B Danny Worth will start at second base and is batting eighth. 2B Marwin Gonzalez will start at first base and is batting second. OF Jake Marisnick will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez has been productive at times at the plate the season but probably can be avoided in most fantasy leagues. Worth and Marisnick are hitting under .200 this season and can be avoided in all leagues.

Astros | Colby Rasmus, A.J. Reed starting

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 10:32:05 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus (ear) is batting sixth and playing left field against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Saturday, July 16. In addition, 1B A.J. Reed is batting eighth and serving as the designated hitter. C/DH Evan Gattis is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus is making his first appearance since July 6, but he is just 2-for-17 at the plate this month and is 4-for-22 (.182) in his career against Iwakuma, so he is not a recommended option this afternoon. Reed is 5-for-20 with two homers and three RBI in July and is worth considering as a value play in DFS due to his power potential.
