Brewers | Matt Garza gets second start this week

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 17:04:48 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza will start Sunday, Aug. 3, rather than Tuesday, Aug. 5, after SP Jimmy Nelson (blister) was scratched Saturday, Aug. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Garza gets a second start for fantasy owners in the current scoring period after allowing just one run over seven innings in a no-decision earlier in the week on the road against Tampa Bay. The only trade off is that he loses two-start status for the upcoming scoring period.

Thu, 01 May 2014 15:34:02 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke expects SP Matt Garza (thumb) to make his next start against the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday, May 5, but how he fares in a bullpen session Friday, May 2, will determine that. Garza's thumb remains black and blue, but the swelling has gone down some.

Fantasy Tip: Check back tomorrow to see how Garza fares in his bullpen session. That'll go a long way toward determining if he'll need to be skipped next week.

Brewers | Matt Garza's numbers not pretty

Thu, 13 Mar 2014 08:58:47 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza is rolling with an ERA of 19.06 so far this spring, but he's not worried about his numbers in camp and said he'll be ready for the start of the regular season. He gave up 10 runs (six earned) and nine hits Wednesday, March 12.

Fantasy Tip: Garza's golden years are behind him, and he wasn't anything special in his return from elbow surgery last year with the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers. In Milwaukee, he won't stand out, and you likely have to deal with an ERA above or near 4.00, but you could do worse with him as your third or fourth starter.
