P Aaron Poreda and P Cesar Ramos were optioned to Triple-A Portland, while P Steve Garrison and P Craig Italiano were sent to Double-A San Antonio.

The San Diego Padres have purchased the contracts of P Steve Garrison, OF Chad Huffman and SP Craig Italiano from Triple-A Portland, according to USAToday.com. As a result of being added to the 40-man roster, they are protected from the Rule 5 draft.

Padres.MLB.com's Corey Brock reports San Diego Padres acquired P Ryan Webb, P Craig Italiano and a player to be named from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for OF Scott Hairston. General manager Kevin Towers sounded excited about the player to be named in the deal. He said he'll pick from two pitchers sometime this month to determine who it is. Towers said one pitcher has major league service time.
