Oakland Athletics RP Joey Devine (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery for the second time Tuesday, April 10. He's expected back in 12 to 18 months. Devine's ulnar nerve was buried and needed to be removed. Also, his flexor tendon was cleaned up during the procedure.

Oakland Athletics RP Joey Devine (elbow) doesn't appear to have any structural damage to his right elbow, but the team still isn't sure what is giving him problems with flexor tendon tendonitis for more than two years. He is being shut down from throwing activities and there is not timetable for him to resume.

Oakland Athletics RP Joey Devine (elbow) said he's still being bothered with flexor tendonitis that has plagued him for the last two and a half years. Dr. James Andrews is examining Devine's MRI exam, and the worst-case scenario is flexor tendon surgery.

Oakland Athletics RP Joey Devine (biceps) was shut down again Monday, April 2, as he has developed elbow soreness. He will see the team doctor in the next day or so. Devine's return date is uncertain at this point. He is already on the 15-day disabled list to start the regular season, but was eligible to come off the DL April 9.

Updating previous reports, Oakland Athletics RP Joey Devine (biceps) will begin the regular season on the disabled list. The team could backdate the DL stint to March 24, and he could be activated as soon as April 8, meaning he would only miss four regular-season games in a best-case scenario. Devine will remain in extended spring training while the team travels to Tokyo Thursday, March 22, because of his limited availability during camp.

Oakland Athletics RP Joey Devine (biceps) has been bothered by some inflammation in his right biceps, which is a leftover effect from his 2009 Tommy John surgery. However, manager Bob Melvin is hopeful that he can throw off a mound Sunday, March 18, and pitch in an exhibition game Tuesday, March 20, before the team departs for Japan Thursday, March 22. If Devine is unable to prove that he is 100 percent healthy, he could remain in Arizona for extended spring training during the week-long Japan trip.
