The Oakland Athletics agreed to one-year deals with Ps Brandon McCarthy and Joey Devine to avoid arbitration Tuesday, Jan. 17. McCarthy will make $4.275 million and Devine will earn $737,500 with added performance bonuses.

Oakland Athletics assistant general manager David Forst said Wednesday, Dec. 28, that RPs Grant Balfour, Fautino De Los Santos and Joey Devine are all candidates for the closer's job following the trade of RP Andrew Bailey to the Boston Red Sox.
