Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury ready to return

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 10:31:58 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) will play one more rehab game Thursday, July 2, before the Yankees decide if he's ready to come off the disabled list. "He feels ready to go," general manager Brian Cashman said. "If it were 100% up to him, then he would be in the lineup on Friday."

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should immediately be returned to all traditional lineups when he's back. On FantasyScore, you may want to give him a game or two before trusting him back in your lineups. Chris Young ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is likely to go back to a fourth outfield role when Ellsbury returns, depending on the status of Carlos Beltran. Young can still be an effective value play against left-handed pitchers when he draws into the lineup, though.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury could return Friday

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 16:27:37 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) will play rehab games for the next three days before being re-evaluated. He could return from the disabled list at the earliest Friday, July 3.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should be returned to all traditional lineups when he's back from the DL. However, you might want to play it safe with him initially on FantasyScore until he gets his legs back underneath him. Chris Young ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will lose valuable playing time when Ellsbury returns and will basically return to his role as the fourth outfielder and go back to mainly starting against lefties. He can still be very useful as a sleeper pick against certain lefties, as he has mashed southpaws this season.

Reds | Billy Hamilton steals five bases Sunday

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 04:47:23 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Billy Hamilton had five stolen bases Sunday, June 14, in a 2-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs. It was the most steals in a game since OF Jacoby Ellsbury stole five in May 2013, and it tied a Reds team record.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) would be absolutely terrifying if he ever figured out how to hit. He still leads the National League with 31 stolen bases. He still has FantasyScore value in your lineup, although almost all of the value is based around his lightning-fast speed.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury at least a week away

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 10:35:23 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) is unlikely to be back much before the end of this month, according to manager Joe Girardi. Ellsbury will accompany the team on their upcoming road trip but will stay in Florida next week and then report to the team's spring training complex for an undisclosed period of time. Ellsbury wasn't wearing a brace on his knee Wednesday, June 10, and he's been doing running in the outfield at less than full speed.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to stay patient with Ellsbury and keep him stashed in a DL slot in all leagues. In his absence, the Yanks continue to use a rotation of Chris Young ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) and Ramon Flores ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) in left field. Flores can pretty much be ignored on FantasyScore, but Young can be a great value pick when facing the right left-handed pitchers.
