Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio said Wednesday, Jan. 25, that OF Ryan Braun will not be attending the team's fan event this weekend in wake of his impending 50-game suspension for failing under baseball's drug program. "In working through the logistics of this weekend's Brewers On Deck event in Milwaukee with Ryan Braun - and knowing how much he enjoys interacting candidly with Brewers fans - we came to the conclusion that this is too sensitive of a time in the confidential process for him to attend this year," Attanasio said.

Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun appeared before a special panel Thursday, Jan. 19, attempting to avoid a 50-game suspension after a failed drug test with elevated testosterone level. Braun appeared in front of a three-member panel, and they will decide whether he'll be suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball. The decision is not expected to come before Braun accepts his MVP award at the New York Chapter of Baseball Writers' Association of America's dinner Saturday, Jan. 21, according to a source.

Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Don Mattingly said he thinks Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun should not win the Most Valuable Player award if he indeed tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug. However, Mattingly said he hopes Braun wins his appeal process regarding a 50-game suspension for a positive test. "In the end, I hope the appeal it's something that was a mistake. I don't want to see anything bad come out of it for him," Mattingly said.

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun will have an arbitration hearing some time in January to give him a chance to overturn a reported positive drug test in October for a banned substance that could result in a 50-game suspension. MLB will not announce when the hearing will be held. In past hearings, the player has been notified of the panel's decision within a week. Braun is expected to attend the New York Baseball Writers Dinner Jan. 21 to accept his 2011 National League most valuable player award, and one report surfaced that he might remain in New York then for his arbitration hearing, but it is not expected to be conducted during that time.
