Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is hitting second in the lineup Monday, July 28, for the first time since 2011. He has hit .296 with five home runs and 17 RBIs in 25 career games in the No. 2 spot, and manager Bryan Price is hoping the move will spark Bruce offensively. Bruce is hitting just .218 with 10 home runs and 42 RBIs in 86 games this year, and he's hitting .107 since the All-Star break.
Fantasy Tip: Bruce's fantasy owners sincerely hope this move up the order works, as well. He's killing your batting average, and his power numbers have been down, as well. If you can, it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep Bruce benched until we see some signs of life.

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto (quadriceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quadriceps. C/1B Brayan Pena was activated from the paternity list.
Fantasy Tip: Todd Frazier is playing first base Tuesday, July 8, with Ramon Santiago at the hot corner. Jay Bruce started at first base Monday, July 7, with Ryan Ludwick and Skip Schumaker in the corner outfield spots. Expect a rotation with Chris Heisey also involved in the short term if they decide to go that route, but the Santiago elevation to the lineup is more likely. All of these subs are desperation NL-only assets.

The Cincinnati Reds placed 1B Joey Votto (quadriceps) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, May 21, and activated OF Jay Bruce (knee) from the DL in a corresponding move. Votto's DL stint is retroactive to May 16.
Fantasy Tip: The good news here is the Reds seriously considered having Votto avoid the DL, because his injury wasn't too serious, and it's not related to his surgically repaired knee. He may not need that much time before returning, but stay tuned. In his absence, the Reds are likely to use some combination of Todd Frazier, Neftali Soto and Brayan Pena at first base. Soto deserves some mild attention in NL-only leagues in the short term.

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce (knee) could be activated from the disabled list very soon, and manager Bryan Price said Bruce won't need to go on a rehab assignment.
Fantasy Tip: Bruce is eligible to come off the DL today, which is entirely possible. If that doesn't happen, there's a good chance he'll be available later this weekend.
