Reds | Jay Bruce on paternity leave

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 10:11:21 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is being placed on the paternity list Monday, April 25. P Layne Somsen had his contract purchased from Class AAA Louisville in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce could be out for a few days, and Tyler Holt and/or Scott Schebler could see a few more starts this week as a result, with Billy Hamilton (thumb) still banged up. Bruce is hitting .265 and has four home runs and 15 RBI on the year and should be put back into all starting lineups when he returns.

Reds | Jay Bruce hits fourth homer

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 14:33:22 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce hit his fourth home run of the season Wednesday, April 20, versus the Colorado Rockies. He finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce now has a splendid 15 RBI on the young season but perhaps most impressive, he's hitting a cool .293, which is certainly higher than anticipated from the 29-year-old. He's always proven he can post respectable power numbers, but if Bruce can maintain a steadily solid batting average, he'll be an upper echelon outfielder in fantasy.

Reds | Five steals in an inning for Reds

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:35:05 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce had two of the five steals by the Reds in one inning Tuesday, April 19. Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa was struggling with fastball command, and he started throwing changeups and ignoring runners. The Reds haven't stolen that many bases in an inning since the 1920's.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce has simmered a bit, but he still has a .278-3-13 line. He's going to have a lower average, but the power production should offset it. He's a solid upper-middle outfielder.

Reds | Jay Bruce goes off Thursday

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 14:39:25 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce hit two home runs and matched a career high with five RBI against the Philadelphia Phillies Thursday, April 7. Bruce was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and is hitting .500 this year so far.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce came into the year undervalued because he doesn't have much help around him in the lineup. But he approached 30 homers last year after a disappointing 2014 season, and his batting average could be on the upswing. Bruce could return excellent value for those that took him in the middle rounds.

White Sox | Pale Hose cooling on Jay Bruce

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 15:04:01 -0800

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is no longer of trade interest to the Chicago White Sox, and Chicago is not in the market for another starting outfielder following the signing of OF Austin Jackson.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce checks out as a bounce-back candidate following two down years. He is a solid late-round gamble given his power upside, and even with an underwhelming .222/.288/.406 slash line, he has still averaged 72 runs, 22 home runs and 76 RBI over the past two seasons. Plus, Bruce is still in his prime entering his age-29 season.

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 05:34:55 -0800

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce was in discussions as part of a three-team deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Toronto Blue Jays, but talks hit a snag in the medical review portion. The deal is dead for now.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce hit just .228 last season with 26 homers and 87 RBIs. He hit .217 the previous year. He could return to 30 homers, but it'll likely be at a price. He's a great OF3 in fantasy.

Blue Jays | Reviewing medicals on Jay Bruce

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 21:06:41 -0800

Updating a previous report, the Toronto Blue Jays will receiver OF Jay Bruce from the Cincinnati Reds as part of a three-team deal. The teams are reviewing the medical records in the deal, a source said Monday, Feb. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce will go to a better lineup in Toronto which includes Troy Tulowitzki, Jose Bautista, etc. He didn't have that kind of protection in Cincinnati. Look for Bruce to shine in his time in Toronto, at least initially, if and when this deal is completed. He is a slam-dunk AL-only play and a decent addition in the late rounds of mixed fantasy drafts, too.
