Reds | Signs of life from Jay Bruce?

Thu, 28 May 2015 19:09:57 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, raising his average from .174 to .226.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has five multi-hit games during the same stretch and is striking out less. He still isn't producing enough to demand you attention at FantasyScore, but he could be a nice buy-low candidate in seasonal leagues.

Reds | Jay Bruce dropped to seventh

Tue, 19 May 2015 15:49:02 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is hitting seventh in the batting order against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Tuesday, May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is still under .200 (24-for-126) on the season, but he does have seven home runs and 19 RBI. The good news is that he's 7-for-24 (.292) with two homers since May 11, and the matchup is in his favor while facing the struggling Ventura. However, Bruce is a boom-or-bust FantasyScore selection.

Reds | Jay Bruce scratched Wednesday

Wed, 11 Mar 2015 11:29:13 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce (calf) was scratched from the spring lineup with a sore right calf Wednesday, March 11.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how serious Bruce's calf injury is, but the Reds are likely practicing caution here with their slugger. A 2014 season in which Bruce only hit 18 long balls will present you with a buying opportunity in 2015. He has managed to hit at least 21 home runs in every other season of his career, and he reached the 30-homer mark in three of the previous seasons before 2014. Bruce is a safe bet to return to 20 homers (and possibly 30?), and you can snag him in the early middle rounds.

Reds | Jay Bruce's knee a non-issue

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 13:34:20 -0800

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce (knee) said his knee is 100% healthy and is a non-issue this spring. Bruce had surgery on a torn meniscus in his knee last May and missed only two weeks after surgery, but he hit a career-low .217 and had a career-low 18 home runs in 2014. Bruce said he started training three weeks earlier this offseason to prepare for the 2015 season.

Fantasy Tip: Because of Bruce's disappointing, injury-riddled 2014 season, expect many fantasy baseball drafters to ignore him completely. We know the power is for real and was likely directly affected by his knee ailment. That presents you with an excellent buying opportunity in Bruce this season as a safe power source likely to rebound.
