Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman to return Tuesday

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 18:36:26 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (rib cage) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, July 26. He went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer in his final rehab game for Class A Potomac Saturday, July 23.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman was not having a great season prior to landing on the disabled list, batting .221 with 12 home runs and 38 RBI through 74 games. He should only be stashed in NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues if you can afford the roster space. His return means Clint Robinson and Trea Turner should see reduced playing time going forward.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman rehab update

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 19:42:22 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (rib cage) went 1-for-5 with two RBI and four strikeouts in his second rehab game for Class A Potomac Friday, July 22.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman is eligible to return from the disabled list next week but he is going through a terrible season, hitting just .221 with 12 home runs and 38 RBI through 74 games, so he isn't worth stashing in shallow mixed leagues. Clint Robinson will continue to see most of the action at first base until he returns.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman starts rehab assignment

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 10:12:19 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (rib cage) is expected to begin his rehab assignment with Class A Potomac Thursday, July 21, and manager Dusty Baker wants to see Zimmerman play in three games before returning to the lineup Tuesday, July 26, against the Cleveland Indians. Zimmerman said he "feels pretty good."

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman is on the cusp of a return to the Nats' lineup, but those in mixed leagues probably aren't all that interested. The veteran first baseman does provide some pop in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues (12 homers), but he's hitting a paltry .221 on the year and remains an injury risk.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman feeling good

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 17:20:23 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (rib cage) did running drills and ran the bases before the team's game Sunday, July 17, and he said his rib cage is feeling "good."

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman will be eligible to come off the disabled list next week, but owners might want to wait longer before starting him again. After all, the 31-year-old is slashing a career-worst .221/.284/.402, so it might be best to wait until he gets into a rhythm. His return will also hurt Clint Robinson.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman on DL, Trea Turner up

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 10:49:41 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (rib cage) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, July 8. OF Michael Taylor and SS Trea Turner were both recalled from the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Despite homering Wednesday, Zimm had been slumping badly and was down to .221/.284/.402 on the season. He's probably not worth stashing in a lot of mixed leagues. Turner is a top shorstop prospect that had nothing left to prove on the farm. Speed is his greatest asset to fantasy owners, but he can also swing it, making him an immediate pickup in all leagues. Expect him to see playing time regularly at second with Daniel Murphy moving to first base. Taylor has an intriguing mix of power and speed, but he's purely outfield depth and can be left to NL-only rosters.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman day-to-day

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 14:44:24 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (undisclosed) is sore, but manager Dusty Baker wouldn't reveal the location of the soreness. He's listed as day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: It's probably just nagging aches and pains that injury-prone veterans typically deal with over the course of the major league season. Regardless, Zimmerman has been in a brutal slump as of late, coming off a month in which he hit .188 in 80 at-bats. Fantasy owners can do far better with their choice at first base.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman resting

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 12:45:33 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 7. 1B Clint Robinson is starting at first base and is hitting sixth against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman is in the midst of an ugly slump that has his average down to .221 on the season with 12 homers and 38 RBI. He can't be trusted in mixed formats right now. Robinson isn't showing much better with a .214/.271/.369 line in 84 at-bats. He's nothing more than a deep sleeper flyer in DFS action.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman homers Wednesday

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 16:45:12 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI against the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman is starting to break out of his slump and has three hits and two RBI in his last two games. He is still hitting .221 this season but should still have some value in deeper mixed leagues.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman slumping badly

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 15:58:55 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman has always been more of a second-half surger in his career, but his average is down to .215 through 72 games of the season, and he is 8-for-56 (.143) in his last 15 games and 2-for-25 (.080) his last seven games. Manager Dusty Baker is confident Zimmerman will break out of his slump.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman has been plagued by injuries the last several years, but he's quickly fading as a must-start fantasy first baseman. He only has 11 homers on the year, too, and hasn't reached the 20-home run mark since 2013. Zimm's days of being fantasy relevant in mixed leagues may be coming to an end, and buying low for a potential big second half is risky.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman, Anthony Rendon starting

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 08:43:15 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman and 3B Anthony Rendon are back in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP John Lamb Sunday, July 3. In addition, OF Michael Taylor will bat leadoff and play center field, with OF Ben Revere receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman is hitting just .174 in 86 at-bats since June 1, and should be avoided in daily fantasy formats this afternoon. Rendon is batting .254 overall but has a .293 mark versus southpaws, although he is still looking for his first home run off a left-hander in 2016. Taylor hit .310 with two home runs, six RBI and four steals during the month of June and is worth considering as a value play in DFS.
