Mon, 18 Aug 2014 18:16:20 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) has worked on an underwater treadmill during his rehab, but that is the only thing he has done in the past month since suffering a Grade 3 hamstring strain. There is still no timetable for his return.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman diagnosis

Tue, 05 Aug 2014 14:19:45 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) has a Grade 3 hamstring strain and is expected to miss six weeks, according to general manager Mike Rizzo.

Fantasy Tip: This news essentially zaps Zimmerman's 2014 fantasy value. It is unlikely he'll be rushed back into everyday at-bats when he returns, and there is still potential for setbacks. It is safe to drop Zimmerman in shallow formats and standard leagues, unless you have an open disabled list slot.

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) could return before the end of the regular season, according to manager Matt Williams.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman passes first test

Tue, 05 Aug 2014 13:41:24 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) walked on an underwater treadmill Monday, August 4, and his hamstring felt fine, according to manager Matt Williams.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman's timetable is still very much unknown. He is worth holding in most formats, but there are no guarantees he returns and has a significant impact in 2014.

Nationals | Acquire Asdrubal Cabrera

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 12:02:39 -0700

The Washington Nationals have acquired SS Asdrubal Cabrera from the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera figures to bat lower in the order with the Nationals, which will potentially hinder his counting stats. A new location could help Cabrera turn his season around, though. He should play the keystone position and should be owned in all NL-only leagues and deep mixed formats. He is worth considering in standard mixed leagues. Danny Espinosa will lose playing time, and the deal likely confirms the seriousness of Ryan Zimmerman's hamstring tear. Any further fantasy contribution from Zimmerman in 2014 should be considered a bonus. Anthony Rendon projects to continue manning the hot corner, which after all, is his natural position.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman has serious injury

Wed, 30 Jul 2014 06:15:57 -0700

Updating previous reports, Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) has a Grade 3 hamstring strain, according to two baseball sources.

Fantasy Tip: If the reports are confirmed, Zimmerman is likely done for the season. Anthony Rendon has taken over at third base, but second base has been a platoon of Danny Espinosa, Zach Walters and Kevin Frandsen. Espinosa has the only real value, in NL-only leagues, but the team could address second base at the trade deadline.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman update

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 14:20:01 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) visited a doctor Monday, July 28, but the team is not releasing the exam results or giving a timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: The expression "No news is good news" likely doesn't apply here. The Nationals and fantasy owners could be without Zimmerman for a lengthy period of time.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman continues to rest

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:16:08 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) continues to rest his injured right hamstring. Manager Matt Williams said Monday, July 28, that he was uncertain how long Zimmerman will be sidelined after suffering a right hamstring injury last week. He was expected to visit a team doctor Monday. "There is still no activity, so we may have something after the game, certain (Tuesday) when we get here. We'll see what the doctor thinks," Williams said.

Fantasy Tip: With Zimmerman sidelined, Anthony Rendon has slid into an everyday role at the hot corner. That leaves second base wide open, with Danny Espinosa, Kevin Frandsen and Zach Walters competing for playing time at that position.

Nationals | Aaron Hill an option?

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 10:53:33 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill "makes a ton of sense" for the Washington Nationals in a trade, according to one evaluator without ties to either team. Hill could play second with 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) on the disabled list. Next year with 1B Adam LaRoche having a mutual option, Hill could play second, 2B Anthony Rendon could move to third and Zimmerman could play first.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned, but be prepared to wait several more weeks for Zimmerman's return.
