Nationals | Two Nats sitting Thursday

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 07:48:04 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman and OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) are out of the lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Matt den Dekker is leading off, and 1B Clint Robinson is hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Tom Koehler is on the bump for the Fish, and den Dekker and Robinson aren't hitting above .100. Pass on them today.

Nationals | Washington sitting four starters

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 10:13:32 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Michael Taylor, 1B Ryan Zimmerman, C Wilson Ramos and SS Danny Espinosa are not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Charlie Morton Sunday, April 17. OF Chris Heisey will start in center field and is batting first. 1B Clint Robinson will start at first base and is batting sixth. SS Stephen Drew will start at shortstop and is batting seventh, while C Jose Lobaton will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: All four players in the starting lineup have not received a lot of playing time this season, but Heisey, Drew and Lobaton have posted decent batting averages so far. Owners probably should be able to find better options for their starting lineups and can avoid the players.

Nationals | Anthony Rendon, Ryan Zimmerman out

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 12:59:02 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon and 1B Ryan Zimmerman are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 13. 2B Stephen Drew is at third base and is hitting second, while 1B Clint Robinson is starting at first base and is batting seventh against Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler.

Fantasy Tip: Neither Drew nor Robinson should be very attractive in daily contests Tuesday evening. Drew does have more appeal as a deep sleeper, though, near the top of the order, and after all he did hit 17 home runs last season.

Nationals | First RBI for Ryan Zimmerman

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 21:50:57 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman picked up his first RBI of the season Monday, April 11, against the Atlanta Braves. He finished 2-for-3 with a double, walk and three runs scored.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman hits in the middle of the lineup, but he has managed just one RBI to date. Still, he has a .400 batting average and .533 slugging percentage, so he has been helping fantasy owners despite the lack of RBI.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 08:17:08 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman is not in the starting lineup versus Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Sunday, April 10. 1B/OF Clint Robinson will play first base and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman, who is 4-for-12 with a double through three games this season, should be removed from all fantasy lineups. Robinson has much more career success against lefties, so this is not an ideal matchup for him this afternoon.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman with no setbacks

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 14:43:46 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (foot) played five innings at first base in his first Grapefruit League game in the field Wednesday, March 16, and nothing stood out. He went 1-for-3 at the plate with a single and also drove the ball to the warning track for an out. Zimmerman said he doesn't feel foreign to first base anymore, either.

Fantasy Tip: Zimm had terrible results trying to play through plantar fasciitis early last year. A rebound late in the year gives hope heading into 2016, but he's coming off two injury-shortened seasons and isn't a lock for regular playing time. Consider him corner infield depth with the ability to boost your power and average.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman set to play 1B

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 20:37:24 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (foot) will play first base for the first time this spring Wednesday, March 15. He has been dealing with plantar fasciitis and that has kept him from playing the field.

Fantasy Tip: When Zimmerman is healthy and able to play, he still provides an above-average batting average, decent power and solid RBI totals. He is a tremendous value as a corner infielder in all fantasy formats, just be sure to have depth on hand due to his propensity for injury.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman to play field

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 06:33:12 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (foot) will play first base Wednesday, March 16.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman feels like he is being overlooked because of the depth at the position. He has frequent injury concerns, but he had a .311-11-39 line in just 135 at-bats after the All-Star break last season. He's a rock-solid CI in mixed leagues.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman set for spring debut

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 06:17:43 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (foot) will make his first start of spring training as the designated hitter Sunday, March 13. Zimmerman continues to battle plantar fasciitis in his left foot, a condition that sidelined him for nearly seven weeks last season.

Fantasy Tip: The 31-year-old veteran has only played 156 games since the beginning of 2014, and he makes for a risky fantasy option in 2016, especially since he is already struggling with an injury that cost him time last season. He isn't a complete afterthought, but fantasy owners should try to avoid relying on him as their go-to first baseman outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only formats.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman close to returning

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 17:28:36 -0800

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (foot) is hoping to return to game action within the next 10 days. He has been taking batting and fielding practice recently, along with doing soft-tissue exercises, but has been taking it slow when it comes to baserunning.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman estimates that he will need 40-50 at-bats during spring training in order to be prepared for the regular season. The 31-year-old has been a major injury risk over the last two years, with just 156 games played since the beginning of the 2014 season, and was sidelined for one month due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot in 2015. He should be viewed as a shaky starting option at first base due to his inability to remain healthy.
