Phillies | Ben Revere no longer everyday player

Fri, 03 May 2013 06:20:07 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Ben Revere is no longer considered an everyday player. He has been losing time to John Mayberry Jr., and will probably continue to do so.

Fantasy Tip: He is battling a finger injury, but the sentiment is that he can play through it if he were producing. He has grounded into five double plays and has just five walks. This isn't good for a R-SB category player. He can probably be dropped in most mixed leagues unless you are a firm believer he'll turn it around.

Phillies | John Mayberry starting

Mon, 01 Apr 2013 15:29:02 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF John Mayberry Jr. is starting over OF Laynce Nix in the outfield on opening day Monday, April 1, because manager Charlie Manuel likes Mayberry's approach against Atlanta Braves SP Tim Hudson. Manuel's decision on the platoon in right field will be made based on matchups, the type of pitcher starting and recent performances.

Fantasy Tip: Both players will cannabalize each other's PT, making them only valuable in deep NL leagues. Mayberry should be your first target of the two.

Phillies | Darin Ruf struggling

Tue, 05 Mar 2013 14:10:22 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies OF Darin Ruf struck out three times in an exhibition game against the Dominican Republic Tuesday, March 5, and he also continued to struggle with his defense in the outfield. Ruf is currently 3-for-23 with one extra-base hit this spring. "That's probably got something to do with his hitting," manager Charlie Manuel said. "He's trying too hard right now and things are not going good for him. He'll be all right. He is going to get some more hits. He's fine. He's not going to go his whole life with all collars." OFs John Mayberry Jr. and Laynce Nix are an alternative to Ruf in left field to start the season.
