Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki smacks game-winning hit

Fri, 20 May 2016 04:34:40 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki had a game-winning single in the 11th inning Thursday, May 19, to give his team a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. Tulowitzki finished 1-for-5 and had a .196 batting average.

Fantasy Tip: Tulowitzki could have used the spark. One of the more impressive National League shoirtstops has become surprisngly pedestrian in his play this season despite eight home runs and 21 runs batted in. Until Tulowitzki figures out the reason why his bat isn't sparking he does not have the fantasy value from previous years. Steer clear.

Rangers | Shawn Tolleson on rocky streak

Sat, 14 May 2016 22:22:36 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Shawn Tolleson gave up home runs to Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak and SS Troy Tulowitzki in the ninth inning Saturday, May 14. Tolleson has a 7.07 earned run average and has blown two of his last four save chances.

Fantasy Tip: Tolleson leads the American League with 11 saves, but closing is often a case of what have you done for me lately. If Tolleson is showing signs of a meltdown, the team may elect to take him out for the time being and let him work things out. Tolleson may have earned a longer leash for the moment, but if you have Tolleson in a fantasy league you may want to consider picking up Tom Wilhelmsen. Wilhelmsen also has prior closing experiece.

Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki recorded three RBI

Sat, 14 May 2016 05:45:35 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI against the Texas Rangers Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Tulowitzki has struggled at the plate this season but does have six RBI over his last three games. His low batting average is hurting fantasy owners, but he should continue to be used in starting lineups since he is one of the better shortstops in fantasy.

Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki due for encore?

Wed, 11 May 2016 11:22:39 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki is hitting .333 with two home runs and five RBI in 27 at-bats against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner in the last five seasons. Tulowitzki is facing Bumgarner Wednesday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Tulo broke out of a long funk with a double, homer and three RBI in the win last night, but he's still hitting just .178/.272/.347 on the season. The good history against MadBum is encouraging if you're planning on using Tulowitzki as another contrarian pick in DFS action.

Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki ready to break slump?

Tue, 10 May 2016 16:43:59 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki is hitting .389 with two home runs and five RBI in 18 at-bats in the last five years against San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain, who he faces Tuesday, May 10.

Fantasy Tip: This could be an opportunity for savvy daily gamers to zig when others zag. Not many folks are likely counting on Tulo these days with an average sitting at .165 with only five hits (one home run) in 32 at-bats this month. In traditional formats, hopefully you've found alternates to use in place of Tulo while he's struggling. His career-worst strikeout rate is concerning for the long run.

Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki not in lineup

Fri, 06 May 2016 13:31:46 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 6. 2B Ryan Goins is starting at shortstop and is hitting eighth against Los Angeles Dodgers SS Kenta Maeda.

Fantasy Tip: Tulo is really struggling. He has a slash line of .163/.267/.317 and 33 strikeouts in 104 at-bats. The lone positive are his five homers and 13 RBI, but this has been ugly. It's concerning that he's making far less contact than his career norms, and buying low is a risky proposition considering his injury history. Goins isn't much better with a .153 average. He shouldn't be started in any leagues.

Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki continues to scuffle

Wed, 04 May 2016 19:46:44 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki was hitless in four at-bats Wednesday, May 4, against the Texas Rangers to drop his average to a dismal .160.

Fantasy Tip: Tulo has just one extra-base hit over the past 10 games, and his batting average hasn't been over the Mendoza line since he went 1-for-3 on opening day. Despite the struggles, you have to stick with him if you have gone this long with him. Don't compound matters by dropping him and having him re-gain his form on another fantasy owner's roster, and certainly don't trade him while his value is at its nadir.

Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki cracks his fifth homer

Sun, 01 May 2016 13:30:05 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: Tulowitzki, who is still sporting a .172 average, left the yard for the first time since doing so twice on April 23. His .172/.291/.356 line isn't endearing him to his current fantasy owners, but despite his struggles since arriving in Toronto last summer, he is a decent buy-low candidate whose can be had for pennies on the dollar. Current owners need to sit tight and consider options like the red-hot Aledmys Diaz in Tulo's place until he shows further signs of life.

Blue Jays | Nagging injuries for several Jays

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 16:48:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson (leg), SS Troy Tulowitzki (hip) and OF Michael Saunders (hamstring) are all in the lineup despite minor nagging injuries Monday, April 25. Donaldson is resting a sore left leg as the designated hitter, and Saunders returns after a three-game absence with a sore hamstring. Donaldson is expected to play through his injury but might require more time as a DH.

Fantasy Tip: Donaldson is last year's AL MVP and should remain in starting lineups in all fantasy formats. Tulo is off to a troubling .179 (12-for-67) start with 20 strikeouts, and you may want to consider benching him in traditional setups until he shows signs of life. Avoid him for now in daily contests. Saunders remains an undervalued commodity in mixed leagues while hitting in such a potent lineup on a regular basis.

Blue Jays | Vintage Troy Tulowitzki shows up Saturday

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 13:02:54 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki returned to the lineup Saturday, April 23, after a day off and had a field day against the Oakland Athletics, finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of solo shots for his first multi-homer since joining the Blue Jays in late July last season.

Fantasy Tip: It's been a rough go for Tulo, who is still only batting .188 for the season after today's effort. There have been reports the 31-year-old isn't happy in Toronto, which could help explain he's not making as much contact and is striking out at much higher rates than his career norms. In 59 games as a Blue Jay, Tulo is batting .225 with nine homers and 27 RBI. He's still a starting option in all leagues due to the lack of overall production at his position, but he should probably be considered a low-end option for now.
