Fri, 10 May 2013 10:31:05 -0700 Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon hit his third home run in as many days Thursday, May 9. 3B Mike Moustakas homered for the second straight game and 1B Eric Hosmer homered for the first time this year in 145 at-bats. Fantasy Tip: Gordon remains hot, but Ned Yost's lineup change may give him a chance to drive in more runs; Gordon was moved from leadoff to the three hole last night, a move that Yost says will stick for a while. Moustakas has turned on a light bulb lately, too, and perhaps hitting lower in the order will begin to benefit Hosmer. Don't give up just yet on the Royals' corner infielders.
Thu, 09 May 2013 16:29:17 -0700 Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon has moved from the leadoff spot to third Thursday, May 9, with 1B Billy Butler hitting cleanup. "The most important two spots we have in the lineup right now should be manned by Gordy and Billy," manager Ned Yost said. "That's three and four. Everything else is interchangeable depending on who's hot and the matchups." The team's No. 4 hitter has ranked last in RBIs (seven), extra-base hits (six) and slugging percentage (.277), and they are ranked 29th among 30 teams with a .271 on-base percentage. SS Alcides Escobar is batting leadoff with OF Lorenzo Cain following him. Escobar prefers to hit second and has much more experience in that slot, but he doesn't have a problem hitting atop the order. 2B Chris Getz and OF Jeff Francoeur returned to the lineup Thursday, but they'll need to show production soon if they want to keep everyday jobs. Yost plans on using this new-look lineup for an extended period of time. Fantasy Tip: Right now, Gordon and Butler are the team's best hitters, so it makes sense to put them in the biggest run-producing spots in the lineup. Yost also cited that it splits up his left- and right-handed bats in Gordon and Eric Hosmer and Butler and Mike Moustakas.
Wed, 08 May 2013 15:07:52 -0700 Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is considering changing up his lineup in the near future that would possibly include moving OF Alex Gordon from leadoff to third in the lineup and increased playing time for OF Jarrod Dyson and 2B Elliot Johnson. Dyson started in center field Wednesday, May 8, and OF Lorenzo Cain shifted to right in place of struggling OF Jeff Francoeur. Johnson started for the second day over 2B Chris Getz. Gordon is hitting only .180 (9-for-50) when leading off an inning compared to .490 (24-for-49) with runners on base. Yost is considering Dyson, Cain or SS Alcides Escobar for options at leadoff. Moving Gordon to third in the lineup would allow 1B Billy Butler to return to the cleanup spot. Fantasy Tip: This could have varying degrees of fantasy implications. For one, this will give Gordon more opportunities for RBIs, and it also should put Dyson on the radar of deep mixed gamers if Francoeur continues to lose out. Yost believes Eric Hosmer eventually deserves to be the three hitter, but he's holding off until he picks it up at the plate.
Thu, 25 Apr 2013 16:29:18 -0700 Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon was having a terrible day Thursday, April 25, against the Detroit Tigers until the 10th inning. He was 1-for-5 with three strikeouts before blasting his first career grand slam to propel the Royals to an 8-3 victory. "That's a big outfield," Gordon said. "I think there was a storm coming in that kind of blew it out a little bit."
Sun, 14 Apr 2013 20:59:04 -0700 Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday, April 14, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He has two hits in five at-bats to push his hitting streak to 11 games.
Wed, 27 Feb 2013 16:33:39 -0800 Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon (back) returned to the lineup Wednesday, Feb. 27, after missing two games with back spasms. Gordon went 2-for-3 in the game.
Wed, 27 Feb 2013 06:25:16 -0800 Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon (back) returned to the lineup Wednesday, Feb. 27.
Tue, 26 Feb 2013 07:32:55 -0800 Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon (back) said his back feels much better, and he plans to play Wednesday, Feb. 27.
Thu, 06 Dec 2012 11:27:13 -0800 Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon could return to the leadoff role in 2013 because the team envisions 1B Eric Hosmer returning as a force in the middle of the order.
Sun, 18 Nov 2012 11:16:58 -0800 The Kansas City Royals may consider listening to trade offers for 1B Eric Hosmer, 3B Mike Moustakas, OF Alex Gordon, DH Billy Butler and OF Wil Myers, in order to acquire pitching help.
