Padres | Justin Upton leaves game

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 21:01:35 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton (thumb) left the game Monday, Aug. 3, against the Milwaukee Brewers due to a bruised right thumb. He is considered day to day.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any lingering effects of his injury.

Padres | Justin Upton to receive qualifying offer

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 13:30:25 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton will receive a qualifying off from the team.

Fantasy Tip: The Padres stood pat at the trade deadline, so they're committed to winning with the team they built during the offseason. Upton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is a huge part of the puzzle, and he has fared well at pitcher-friendly PETCO Park this season with 32 runs, 13 home runs, 31 RBI, seven stolen bases and a .297/.354/.558 slash line. Continue to view Upton as a No. 1 outfielder in the majority of fantasy formats.

Padres | Justin Upton likely staying put

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 12:14:57 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton appears unlikely to be dealt before the trade deadline Friday, July 31, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: While this might be somewhat surprising to see him remain with the club, the Friars were likely chasing a huge haul in return for Upton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap). To date, he has 18 home runs and 56 RBI and is worth looking at when the Padres face a favorable opposing starter.

Orioles | Baltimore unwilling to part with prospects

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 09:22:11 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton is of interest to the Baltimore Orioles, but the Orioles are hesitant to part with SP Kevin Gausman, RP Mychal Givens or 2B Jonathan Schoop in any deal for a veteran bat.

Fantasy Tip: A move to Baltimore would surely make Upton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) more valuable to his fantasy owners, although he oddly has better hitting splits at pitcher-friendly Petco Park in 2015.

Orioles | Baltimore in on Carlos Gonzalez

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 15:41:37 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez has been mentioned in trade talks between the Rockies and the Baltimore Orioles, per sources Thursday, July 30. San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton and Detroit Tigers OF Yoenis Cespedes are considered the more likely options for Baltimore.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has been on a tear of late, hitting eight home runs since July 22. A move from Coors field would be a negative for his fantasy value, but he would benefit from being a part of the better Orioles' lineup.

Mets | NY wants to add another bat

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 12:17:58 -0700

The New York Mets want to add another big bat at the trading deadline, and they have their sights set on San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton, Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez, Milwaukee Brewers OFs Carlos Gomez and Gerardo Parra and Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce. The Padres and Mets didn't agree on a prospect package for Upton, but the talks could be rekindled. Gonzalez's price tag would be high, as he is heating up this summer. The Reds are showing interest in SP Zack Wheeler in exchange for Bruce. Reds OF Marlon Byrd could be a fallback option for the Mets.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets surely could use a boost on the offensive side, and any of these bats would do just fine. A move to New York for any of these names is unlikely to drastically affect their fantasy value, although some of those names would be leaving fine hitting environments.

Padres | Justin Upton not helping trade value

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 11:31:22 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton has a .455 OPS in the month of July after sporting a .608 OPS in June.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) isn't endearing himself to interested parties as the trade deadline approaches. He's hitting .145 (8-for-55) with two home runs and only four RBI. Although he's hitting better at pitcher-friendly Petco Park this year, a move to a new venue would likely boost his fantasy value for the remainder of 2015.

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton is being pursued by the Baltimore Orioles in advance of the trade deadline Friday, July 31.

Orioles | Baltimore discussing Justin Upton

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 13:26:00 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton has been discussed in trade talks with the Baltimore Orioles, according to sources. A potential deal could be expanded to include SPs Andrew Cashner and/or Tyson Ross, too.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($6,000, 12.0% of cap), strangely enough, has hit better at Petco Park (.297/.354/.558 with 13 home runs) than on the road (.208/.308/.306 with three homers) this year. However, a move to hitter-friendly Camden Yards would do nothing to hurt his fantasy value moving forward. Save your FAAB money if you're in an AL-only league, as many impact players are likely to come over from the National League at the trade deadline.
