Padres | Justin Upton sitting Sunday

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 10:20:49 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton is not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn Sunday, July 5. OF Melvin Upton Jr. will start in center field and is batting first in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is receiving a day off and should return soon. Melvin Upton ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has struggled since coming off the bench and is hitting .163 this season. Owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options to use.

Padres | Justin Upton snaps skid

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 20:23:56 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton broke an 0-for-17 skid with a single in the sixth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals Friday, July 3. He also stole a base.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) had been in a slight funk, but he is still on pace for 28 homers, 91 RBI and 32 steals. He won't come cheap, but Upton has the type of upside that can put a FantasyScore lineup over the top and into the money.

Padres | Justin Upton plays well against SF

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 11:32:39 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton has reached base safely in all nine games against the San Francisco Giants this year, posting a line of .313/.425/.406 with three doubles, two RBI and seven walks. He's reached base safely in 11 straight games against San Fran dating back to May of last year when he was with the Atlanta Braves. Upton is also 15-for-15 in stolen bases this year.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) has been one of the few bright spots for the Friars offensively in what has become a pretty disappointing season to this point. He remains a nice source of power potential on FantasyScore.

Padres | Justin Upton has game-winning homer

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 00:08:26 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton hit the game-winning home run Saturday, June 13, in a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) improved his totals to 13 home runs and 39 RBIs, and he also improved to .370 (10-for-27) against Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke. That's a small sample size, but it adds up to Upton being a must-start in all formats as long as that bat stays hot.

Padres | Justin Upton swipes his 13th bag

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 06:19:03 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton stole his 13th base of the season during the Padres' 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: From 2009-2012, Upton ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) averaged 19 stolen bases per season, so he is capable, and manager Bud Black appears to be letting Upton run loose. Fantasy owners have to be thankful Upton is back to his stealing ways, as he is a legit threat to flirt with a 30-30 season and a top-10 fantasy finish. However, before your cash the 30-30 ticket, expect opposing teams to catch up with Upton's revived fondness of running and pay a little more attention to him on the base paths going forward.

Padres | Justin Upton resting

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 06:18:53 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton is out of the lineup Thursday, June 11, in favor of OF Will Venable.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has the chore of facing Julio Teheran today, whom he is 3-for-8 with a homer against in his career. Venable is a shaky proposition on FantasyScore with a .265-5-17 line on the season.

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton has struck out in five of his nine at-bats against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom, who is scheduled to start against the Padres Monday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: The sample size isn't huge, but considering Upton ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) commands a big price tag at FantasyScore, his history with deGrom is enough to make you think twice about paying for his services Monday.

Padres | Matt Kemp hopes slump is over

Wed, 27 May 2015 12:22:34 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp's bases-clearing double helped his team beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 4-0, on Tuesday, May 26. Kemp was hitting from the fourth spot instead of the third, which is now occupied by OF Justin Upton. Kemp was hitting .185 (17-for-92) in May.

Fantasy Tip: Manager Bud Black made this move to get Upton ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) up in the first inning and give Kemp ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) a bit of time to relax. It appears to have worked this week, but you may want to wait and see for one or two games if Kemp has found his bat again.

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, six RBIs and two runs scored in an 11-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: After three quiet games, Upton ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) was back to driving in runs Sunday. He has 12 homers and 35 RBIs on the year, and he makes a strong option at FantasyScore, especially against right-handed pitching.
