Mon, 06 May 2013 14:55:28 -0700 Atlanta Braves C Evan Gattis, who is starting in left field Monday, May 6, will split time in the outfield, at catcher and at first base now that C Brian McCann (shoulder) is back from the disabled list. However, with McCann making $12 million this year and set to become a free agent after this season, it's believed that McCann won't be brought back in 2014 and Gattis will become the team's primary catcher. Gattis played left field in winter ball, which allows OF Justin Upton to move to right field at least while OF Jason Heyward (appendix) is out. Fantasy Tip: Gattis should still be worth hanging onto in deep mixed leagues since he should be playing at least three or four times a week until Heyward returns. After that, playing time will likely be even harder to come by for Gattis. If less PT affects Gattis' performance, only then would it be reasonable to drop Gattis in deep mixed formats.
Tue, 23 Apr 2013 11:54:17 -0700 Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said he won't move OF Justin Upton from left field to right field while OF Jason Heyward (appendix) is on the disabled list. OFs Jordan Schafer and Reed Johnson are expected to split time in right field in the meantime.
Tue, 23 Apr 2013 11:11:07 -0700 Atlanta Braves OFs Jordan Schafer and Reed Johnson could see playing time in right field with OF Jason Heyward (appendix) on the disabled list. The team also has the option of moving OF Justin Upton from left field to right field. C Evan Gattis could also play left field, but it's unlikely Atlanta will ask Gattis to play left field in Coors Field this week. Fantasy Tip: Gattis clearly gives Atlanta the most offensive upside over Schafer and Johnson, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see them try to get his bat in the lineup any way possible. Schafer should be your first target over Johnson in NL leagues if Atlanta doesn't move Gattis to left. Stay tuned.
Sun, 14 Apr 2013 19:59:06 -0700 Atlanta Braves OF Justin Upton went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks and two runs scored Sunday, April 14, against the Washington Nationals. Fantasy Tip: Upton has seven homers on the season. He didn't have seven homers until June 23 last season when he was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Tue, 09 Apr 2013 09:24:44 -0700 Atlanta Braves OF Justin Upton had four hits, including his sixth home run of the year, in the team's victory over the Miami Marlins Monday, April 8. It was the eighth four-hit game of his career, and he has six homers in only 25 at-bats this season. Last year, he hit his sixth home run of the year in his 228th at-bat. Upton became the 10th player since 1916 to have at least six long balls through his team's first seven contests, and the only Braves player among this group of 10. He believes he's on a mission to prove that the Arizona Diamondbacks were wrong to trade him away. Fantasy Tip: It's safe to say that Upton is enjoying his new digs in Atlanta. However, he has only eight RBIs to show for his six home runs, which may be more indicative of the Bravos' lineup surrounding him this season. Upton will cool off eventually, so just be prepared for when that comes.
Mon, 18 Mar 2013 20:05:13 -0700 Atlanta Braves OF Justin Upton smacked two home runs in the Grapefruit League spring game Monday, March 18, against the Philadelphia Phillies, showing improvement after working with hitting coach Greg Walker. "Upton and (Walker) sat back about four or five days ago and did some tinkering and it looks like it paid off," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "I know they were talking about a little different bat angle. He's been locked in."
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 06:32:34 -0800 Atlanta Braves OF Justin Upton, 2B Dan Uggla and 3B Chris D. Johnson are in camp early.
Tue, 29 Jan 2013 15:25:13 -0800 Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said OF Justin Upton will be the team's No. 3 hitter "no matter who is pitching against you." OF B.J. Upton and C Brian McCann will round out the middle of the order.
Fri, 25 Jan 2013 21:32:22 -0800 Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Friday, Jan. 25, that he envisions SS Andrelton Simmons serving at the top of his lineup, with OF Jason Heyward batting second and OF Justin Upton filling the third spot in the batting order.
Fri, 25 Jan 2013 09:08:53 -0800 Atlanta Braves OF Justin Upton will likely play left field and hit third in the team's lineup this season.
