Padres | Big night for Justin Upton

Sun, 24 May 2015 20:40:07 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, six RBIs and two runs scored in an 11-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: After three quiet games, Upton ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) was back to driving in runs Sunday. He has 12 homers and 35 RBIs on the year, and he makes a strong option at FantasyScore, especially against right-handed pitching.

Padres | Justin Upton finding Petco paradise

Sun, 24 May 2015 13:40:26 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton has hit nine of his 11 home runs in Petco Park.

Fantasy Tip: So much for Upton ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) losing his power with a move to San Diego. Because he has hit so many of his home runs at home, you may want to configure your lineup so that Upton starts during a homestand.

Padres | Justin Upton hits pair of homers

Mon, 18 May 2015 04:16:15 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton hit two home runs Sunday, May 17, against the Washington Nationals to raise his season total to 10.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) had a .277-8-29 line entering the game, and he appears to have adjusted to his new surroundings quite nicely. Upton did have 29 homers last year while with the Atlanta Braves, but changing teams and going to pitcher-friendly Petco Park can stifle homer totals. Upton is a great start in daily leagues as long as he keeps up this pace.

Padres | Abraham Almonte leading off for SD

Wed, 13 May 2015 16:33:01 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Abraham Almonte is starting in left field and hitting leadoff against Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker Wednesday, May 13. OF Justin Upton is serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Almonte ($1,700, 3.4% of cap), a switch hitter, hits just .234 with four of his five career home runs against right-handers from the left side of the plate. While Walker has struggled with consistency this year, Almonte shouldn't excite FantasyScore owners looking for a deep sleeper, even while hitting leadoff.

Padres | Justin Upton launches a pair

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 05:21:06 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton hit two home runs and drove in five runners Saturday, April 25. They were his fourth and fifth round trippers of the season, and he now has 13 RBI for the season.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is currently sporting an impressive .953 OPS this season. He is somewhat feast or famine in daily contests, though, as he entered the game Saturday in a 1-for-9 funk. Still, in his age-27 season, the nine-year veteran appears in line for his best season since his 2011 campaign. Given the upside, his FantsyScore price presents a little bit of a discount, too.

Padres | Justin Upton should be fine in park

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 08:38:01 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton hit 29 home runs in 2014, and all would have left the spacious confines of Petco Park, according to a study that was done. The Padres view him as a one-year rental, but that could change as the season progresses.

Fantasy Tip: Upton has a .288-3-8 line in his first 59 at-bats. Two of those homers were at PETCO. At $4,900 (9.8% of your cap), you can use him with confidence on FantasyScore despite his park factors.

Padres | No Justin Upton Thursday

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 10:15:14 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 23. OF Will Venable receives the start in left field and is hitting sixth in the batting order against Colorado Rockies SP Jordan Lyles.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a low-end outfield option at FantasyScore today, but he does have two home runs this season and has speed to boot. He has one home run in nine career at-bats against Lyles, for what it's worth.

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 18:56:49 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton (quadriceps) returned to the lineup Tuesday, April 21, against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Upton returned to action, then left early, Monday. However, due to the lopsided nature of the score it appears it was simply a precautionary measure to keep him healthy. FantasyScore owners can feel confident using him at $4,900 (or 9.8% of cap).

Padres | Justin Upton leaves game

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 20:30:37 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton (quadriceps) left the game Monday, April 20, against the Colorado Rockies in the middle of the fourth inning after three at-bats. He had been nursing a strained left quadriceps, and might have simply been lifted due to the lopsided score of the game.

Fantasy Tip: All indications are that Uptonís removal from the game was precautionary, but this is one of those instances where FantasyScore owners need to be careful and wait to see a guy make it through a full game before trusting him in the lineup after an injury.

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 14:57:29 -0700

Last year, Upton hit .286 (34-for-119) with 11 of his 29 home runs off southpaws. He's a strong play at FantasyScore this evening while swinging at hitter-friendly Coors Field, too.
