The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted RP Craig Hansen (shoulder) to Double-A Altoona, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He had been dealing with a nerve injury to his shoulder.

Jenifer Langosch, of MLB.com, reports Pittsburgh Pirates RP Craig Hansen (back) has started throwing and is scheduled to throw off a mound for the first time March 10. It is still too early to set a timetable for his return.

Pirates.MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports Pittsburgh Pirates RP Craig Hansen (neck) received good news in a checkup last week. The nerve, which needed to regenerate, has moved closer to the muscle in his neck that needs to be strengthened. He's still unlikely to be ready for spring training, but it's a sign he may be able to return in 2010.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Dejan Kovacevic reports Pittsburgh Pirates RP Craig Hansen (shoulder) was diagnosed with Personage-Turner Syndrome, which is a condition in which a nerve deteriorates and shuts down muscles in the upper back, shoulder and upper arm. Doctors have told him his return could take anywhere from seven months to five years, but a full recovery usually is the case.
