The nerve, which needed to regenerate, has moved closer to the muscle in his neck that needs to be strengthened. He's still unlikely to be ready for spring training, but it's a sign he may be able to return in 2010.

Doctors have told him his return could take anywhere from seven months to five years, but a full recovery usually is the case.
