Kansas City Royals SP Luke Hochevar allowed nine runs, 12 hits and three walks in just four innings in a loss Tuesday, May 1, against the Detroit Tigers. He had allowed just three runs in 11 1/3 innings over his past two starts. "I didn't execute quality pitches. It's about as simple as that," Hochevar said.

Kansas City Royals SPs Jonathan Sanchez and Luke Hochevar have flip-flopped spots in the starting rotation because Sanchez is battling the flu. Hochevar will start against the Detroit Tigers Monday, April 30, with Sanchez pitching Tuesday, May 1.

Kansas City Royals SP Jonathan Sanchez will be bumped up to start in place of SP Luke Hochevar (foot) Wednesday, April 18. Hochevar took a line drive off his foot last week and will start instead Friday, April 20. Sanchez will be pitching on only three days of rest.

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Royals SP Luke Hochevar (ankle) was diagnosed with a medial contusion of his left ankle after undergoing X-rays, which came back negative. He is being listed as day-to-day. Hochevar allowed seven runs in the first inning against the Cleveland Indians Friday, April 13.

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost doesn't want any catcher working more than two days in a row. C Humberto Quintero made the start Saturday, April 7, and he will also catch SPs Jonathan Sanchez and Danny Duffy. C Brayan Pena will receive against SPs Bruce Chen and Luis Mendoza. "I don't want anybody catching more than two days in a row," Yost said. "I'm trying to keep a balance. I like Quintero with (SP Luke Hochevar), Sanchez and Duffy because he's more of a veteran presence with those guys."

Kansas City Royals SP Luke Hochevar carried a three-hit shutout into the seventh inning Saturday, April 7, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He ended up allowing two earned runs, five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 6 1/3 innings for a win and quality start. Hochevar entered play 0-3 with a 8.02 ERA in four previous career starts against the Angels.

Royals | Three avoid arbitration

The Kansas City Royals agreed to one-year deals with SPs Luke Hochevar, Felipe Paulino and Jonathan Sanchez to avoid arbitration Tuesday, Jan. 17. Hochevar will make $3.51 million and Paulino will receive $1.9 million. Sanchez will make $5.6 million with an extra $200,000 in incentives.
