Jeff Duncan, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports the New Orleans Saints have signed TE David Sloan, who was with the team in 2002, to serve as a backup at tight end due to injuries. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Brian Allee-Walsh, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints TE David Sloan (shoulder), who has been sidelined much of camp after undergoing shoulder surgery Aug. 4, could be the odd man out. Sloan entered camp as the team's No. 2 tight end, but that spot now technically belongs to Saints TE Boo Williams.

The Advocate reports New Orleans Saints TE David Sloan (shoulder) underwent arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder on Monday and will miss one to two weeks of action. "He had some pieces floating around, so we wanted to get them out now," Saints head coach Jim Haslett said. "They tell me it will be a week before he can go out and start catching the ball and then another week before he can put on the pads and start playing again."
