Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports the Chicago Bears have waived WR Brandon Rideau, OG Johan Asiata, DE Ervin Baldwin, OT Cody Balogh, QB Brett Basanez, CB Rudy Burgess, CB Marcus Hamilton, CB Woodny Turenne, FB Will Taufoou, LB Marcus Freeman, LB Kevin Malast, LB Mike Rivera, WR Eric Peterman and C Donovan Raiola. The Bears also terminated the contracts of OG Dan Buenning and LB Darrell McClover.

Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears WR Devin Aromashodu, WR Rashied Davis and WR Brandon Rideau are all competing for the No. 3 wide receiver job. Some believe Aromashodu has the edge heading into the team's preseason game Sunday, Aug. 30. However, Davis has the most experience of the three and Rideau has been making more plays in training camp.

Pat Yaskinas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports the Carolina Panthers worked out WRs Josh Davis (Vikings) and Brandon Rideau (Browns) Tuesday, Sept. 12. While the two are considered emergency options at the position in case of any injuries to the current depth chart, the reason for the workout was to have receivers for free agent QB Drew Henson (Cowboys) to throw to during his evaluation.

The Sports Xchange reports Cleveland Browns WR Brandon Rideau had a disappointing performance at the team's recent minicamp. The Browns were hoping Rideau would challenge for a spot as the second or third receiver while WR Braylon Edwards (knee) mends from knee surgery. Rideau was not as fast as the coaches wanted him to be.

The Canton Repository reports Cleveland Browns WR Frisman Jackson might have a leg up on being the No. 3 wideout behind starting WRs Joe Jurevicius and Dennis Northcutt at the start of the season, if WR Braylon Edwards (knee) isn't back from knee surgery. Head coach Romeo Crennel said WR Josh Cribbs "came on and made some plays." He said WR Brandon Rideau has improved, but "didn't make as many plays as I hoped."

With WR Braylon Edwards (knee) possibly missing some regular season games, WRs Joe Jurivicius and Dennis Northcutt could both be starting, opening up the No. 3 spot for the remaining players to vie for. WRs Frisman Jackson, Joshua Cribbs and Brandon Rideau are the top candidates for the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, with rookie WRs Travis Wilson, Carlton Brewster, Brent Little, Steve Sanders and newly acquired WR Kendrick Mosley competing as well.

Terry Pluto, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage said the team will take a serious look at WR Brandon Rideau. Rideau was on the roster last year but did not play in the regular season. He had some good moments catching the ball during exhibition games.

Terry Pluto, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports the Cleveland Browns might have underrated WR Brandon Rideau during the 2005 season. Rideau came out of Kansas and was known to have iffy hands, but rarely dropped a pass in training camp or practices. The Browns were reluctant to use him last year and now admit they might have underrated him due to his college reputation instead of how he performed in practice. The team hopes to continue working with him this offseason and see if he can make an impact.

Jeff Walcoff, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Cleveland Browns rookie WR Brandon Rideau, signed as an undrafted free agent after minicamps had ended, has been turning heads thus far in training camp. "There's always that rookie, that free agent, that tryout guy that's going to make a name and say, 'You know what? I want to play in this league.' Right now, he's that guy," WR Dennis Northcutt said. "Plain and simple. He's doing things that some of the veterans aren't doing." With nine other receivers on the team and probably only room for five or six on the 53-man roster, Rideau has his work cut out for him. If he doesn't make the active roster, Rideau could land on the practice squad.
