"Can we send these coaches back to college?" one player privately said after a Week 15 loss which saw a shoving incident between assistant coach Bryan Cox and LB Adam Hayward.

The Associated Press reports the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints got into some fights at their scrimmage Friday. WR Damon Gibson had Saints LB Roger Knight pinned to the ground and was throwing haymakers at his helmet. Knight's teammate, Bryan Cox came by to knock Gibson off. Then Jaguars WR Bobby Shaw went after Cox.

The Boston Herald reports free agent LB Bryan Cox (Patriots) had drawn "strong interest" from the New Orleans Saints. While a contract agreement does not appear imminent, GM Randy Mueller has expressed a desire to bring Cox to the Saints. Cox's agent, Clifford Brady, said earlier in the offseason that Cox believes he can play another 2-3 seasons.

The Boston Herald reports New England Patriots LB Bryan Cox would like to return to the team next season. Cox, who will become an unrestricted free agent March 1, has not heard from the Pats regarding a new contract. Agent Cliff Brady assumes the Patriots will let Cox test the free agent waters. Brady said Cox would accept coming back and playing in a backup role.

Jay Glazer reports for SportsLine.com New England Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis will reportedly be available to other teams after January 31, when his current contract expires. "Just like some of the other guys like Roman Phifer and Bryan Cox who are free agents after the year, it's the same thing with him," said FB Marc Edwards. The team will push hard to re-sign Weis. The team elected to wait to re-sign him, and as a result he will be free to interview as early as next week. As previously reported, Carolina's new coach John Fox will reportedly pursue Weis to be his offensive coordinator.

Coach Bill Belichick said it's too deep in the season to do so. "I think at this point we are pretty much what we are," Belichick said. The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos G Dan Neil was fined $15,000 Thursday for an illegal block that broke LB Bryan Cox's right leg during Denver's 31-20 victory over the New England Patriots last weekend. Broncos coach Mike Shanahan questioned whether Neil even made contact with Cox. Neil will appeal the fine. Also Thursday, the league fined Broncos LB Al Wilson $5,000 for hitting New England QB Tom Brady in the shoulder after a Patriots touchdown.

The Associated Press reports New England Patriots LB Bryan Cox arrived in the Patriots locker room Monday on crutches, with his right leg in a cast and his temper no less inflamed after yesterday's injury. He feels he was illegally blocked by Denver G Dan Neil. "It was a clip. There's no doubt about it," said Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who said he wanted the league to review the tape for a possible fine against Neil. Denver coach Mike Shanahan defended Neil after watching the play dozens of times Monday. Cox said doctors told him the injury was not going to end his season. Belichick said he won't know how long Cox will be out until he sees what happens over the next two weeks.

Updating an earlier story, the Associated Press reports New England Patriots LB Bryan Cox said his injured leg is broken and he's mad about it. He spared no words in describing a block in the third quarter that sidelined him for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos. Cox said he went down on a cut block by Denver G Dan Neil. "I was cut on purpose," he said. "I think it was a cheap shot, because I was in a no-cut zone." Cox promised to get even saying he would go after Neil's knee if they ever met again in a game. Neil declined comment after the game.

According to John Clayton of ESPN, New England Patriots LB Bryan Cox (flu) returned to practice on Friday. He said he would have to be dead to not play against the Dolphins. Nickel CB Leonard Myers, who has the flu, is likely not to play on Sunday. RB J.R. Redmond (ankle), S Matt Stevens (knee) and LB T.J. Turner (knee) didn't practice Friday and remain questionable but probably won't play.

Cox is now listed as doubtful as well. DE Willie McGinest was changed from probable to questionable with his leg/back injury.

Patriots | Rotation Keeping Players Fresh

Paul Kenyon reports for the Providence Journal New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has employed a rotation system at linebacker and in the secondary which seems to be keeping his players fresher. LB Tedy Bruschi has seen his workload cut which has been a shock to his system. Bruschi is now part of a linebacker rotation with Bryan Cox and Ted Johnson, a rotation that allows each player to get some rest. The added depth could be especially useful this week. Sunday's game in Miami, where the temperatures are expected to be in the mid or high 80s. Ty Law, Otis Smith and Terrell Buckley have been sharing time at the corners all season. Matt Stevens and Tebucky Jones have been sharing time at free safety as well.
