Vikings | Kluwe working on improving hang time
Sun, 09 Aug 2009 20:57:34 -0700 Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings P Chris Kluwe said special teams coordinator Brian Murphy has asked him to work on his hang time. Kluwe said, "You can have direction, distance and hang time, but you can only have two. If they want me to kick it like that, I can't guarantee that every punt is going to go exactly where we want it to. That's something we'd work on. We'd try to get it as close as possible." Murphy acknowledged there is a "huge learning curve" for a punter changing styles. Kluwe has had his share of booming punts in training camp, and he appears to be angling them in the right direction. To help him angle his punts better, Kluwe said he is taking more time.

As previously reported, head coach Brad Childress was livid with P Chris Kluwe because of his failure to punt two balls out of bounds Week 5. Kluwe was signed to a contract extension last season.

When asked if Kluwe struggles to kick the ball out of bounds, Childress said if Kluwe cannot execute, he will have to find another punter.
