Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints DEs Charles Grant and Will Smith are considering appealing the ruling that dismissed the lawsuit brought by the NFL Players Association on behalf of Grant, Smith and three other players against the NFL regarding their suspensions for testing positive for a banned substance.

The Associated Press reports the National Football League wants an appeals court to reconsider a federal judge's order that blocked the suspensions of Minnesota Vikings DL Kevin Williams and DL Pat Williams, New Orleans Saints DL Charles Grant, RB Deuce McAllister and DL Will Smith for violating the league's anti-doping policy, according to court documents filed Monday, Dec. 22, in U.S. District Court in Minnesota. Attorneys for the NFL filed notice they were asking the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals to take up the issue after U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson in St. Paul, Minn., earlier this month cleared the way for the five players to continue playing.

Updating an ongoing story, Brian Murphy, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports an aide for U.S. District Court Judge Paul Magnuson said the earliest the judge will rule on the NFL's suspensions of five NFL players who violated the league's policy on steroids and related substances will be Friday, Dec. 12. New Orleans Saints RB Deuce McAllister and DE Will Smith will be able to play Week 15 but Minnesota Vikings DT Kevin Williams and DT Pat Williams are still in danger of being suspended before their Week 15 game. Saints DE Charles Grant, the other player suspended, is currently on Injured Reserve.

Chris Williams, of The Associated Press, reports U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson has blocked the suspensions of the five NFL players who tested positive for a banned diuretic that is a masking agent for steroids. Magnuson said he needed more time to consider the case after hearing hours of arguments from the NFL and the NFL Players Association Friday, Dec. 5. The five players involved are Minnesota Vikings DL Kevin Williams and DL Pat Williams as well as New Orleans Saints RB Deuce McAllister, DL Charles Grant and DL Will Smith.

Simon Evans, of Reuters, reports the NFL Players Association has filed a lawsuit challenging the suspensions of New Orleans Saints DL Charles Grant, DL Will Smith and RB Deuce McAllister and Minnesota Vikings DL Kevin Williams and DL Pat Williams for breach of the league's steroids policy. The lawsuit, filed with the Federal District Court in Minneapolis, asks for an "immediate injunction" to allow the players to take part in Week 14 games.

Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints RB Deuce McAllister, DL Will Smith and DL Charles Grant likely will not be suspended this week since the NFL usually announces suspensions early in the week. According to a report by Fox Sports, the league won't make its decision until sometime after briefs are filed on the players' behalf Sunday, Nov. 30.
