Vikings | Short leash for Christian Ponder

Sat, 20 Apr 2013 21:00:26 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder remains the unquestioned starter entering his third NFL season. However, if he goes into a protracted slump like last season, the coaching staff could be inclined to take a look at QB Matt Cassel, who will make $3.7 million this season even if he doesn't take a snap. Cassel fits the system of offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave better than QB Joe Webb, who is expected to serve as the third QB.

The fact of the matter is, again, Christian is the starting quarterback. I think we'll have a great [meeting] room. I'm there to add value. I'm there to help him out in whatever capacity that is, and go from there," Cassel said.

That's how it works when there's a change," Reid said.

Mon, 19 Nov 2012 07:49:54 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel's time as the team's starting quarterback appears to be over after he was pulled in favor of QB Brady Quinn in Week 11. But he wouldn't speculate on what his second benching of the season would mean for his future in Kansas City. "I'm not going to go into that right now," Cassel said. "I don't know what my future holds, but I'm going to continue to be the same guy. I'm going to continue to work hard and do whatever I can to help this team win. It's a tough situation. Anytime you're the quarterback. There is a lot of weight put on you whether it goes good or whether it goes bad."

Chiefs | Matt Cassel ruled out for Week 6

Thu, 11 Oct 2012 09:19:03 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel (concussion) has been ruled out for the team's Week 6 game.

Fantasy Tip: Chiefs fans are finally getting their wish, although it was injury, and not poor play, that forced the quarterback out of the starting lineup. Cassel has already thrown nine picks with only five touchdowns in the first five games. He attempted just 15 passes in a Week 5 loss as the Chiefs were looking to play it safe with the run game, rather than have the football in his hands. Brady Quinn, who has been taking first-team reps in practice, will start in Week 6; however, he should not be considered a fantasy option. He will likely serve as no more than a game manager, particularly behind a strong running game.

Mon, 08 Oct 2012 12:28:18 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel (concussion) has not been ruled out for Week 6 yet but it appears unlikely that he will be able to play.

Fantasy Tip: If Cassel doesn't play, Brady Quinn will serve as the starter. Quinn shouldn't be trusted as a starting option unless you're extremely desperate in leagues where you start two QBs.
