Sat, 20 Apr 2013 21:00:26 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder remains the unquestioned starter entering his third NFL season. However, if he goes into a protracted slump like last season, the coaching staff could be inclined to take a look at QB Matt Cassel, who will make $3.7 million this season even if he doesn't take a snap. Cassel fits the system of offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave better than QB Joe Webb, who is expected to serve as the third QB.

The fact of the matter is, again, Christian is the starting quarterback. I think we'll have a great [meeting] room. I'm there to add value. I'm there to help him out in whatever capacity that is, and go from there," Cassel said.

Thu, 07 Feb 2013 18:47:27 -0800 Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said the team is still evaluating QB Matt Cassel and that it is too early for the team to make a decision on him. "We're too early in the process to know that. We'll continue to evaluate it. We're evaluating him just like we do a free agent. That's what you do, and the thing about that is it takes time. I think he realizes that. That's how it works when there's a change," Reid said.

Mon, 19 Nov 2012 12:37:40 -0800 Updating a previous item, Kansas City Chiefs QB Brady Quinn appears to be in line to start against the Denver Broncos in Week 12 after QB Matt Cassel was benched in the team's Week 11 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. "I wanted to start Cassel, so I started Cassel," head coach Romeo Crennel said. "When I felt like I needed to make a change, I made the change to Quinn. While head coach Romeo Crennel didn't make a decision publicly, Cassel indicated he knew which way his coach would go. But he wouldn't speculate on what his second benching of the season would mean for his future in Kansas City. "I'm not going to go into that right now," Cassel said. "I don't know what my future holds, but I'm going to continue to be the same guy. I'm going to continue to work hard and do whatever I can to help this team win. It's a tough situation. Anytime you're the quarterback. There is a lot of weight put on you whether it goes good or whether it goes bad."

Wed, 17 Oct 2012 07:21:04 -0700 Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said he is hoping to avoid a quarterback controversy between QBs Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn because he knows how destructive that can be to a team. "It is distracting," Crennel said. "Everybody's wondering who the guy's going to be, and all those kind of things. Then what happens, some guys on the team kind of favor one guy over another guy. Even though everybody's got a job to do and they will do their job. But it is a distraction."

Thu, 11 Oct 2012 09:19:03 -0700 Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel (concussion) has been ruled out for the team's Week 6 game. Fantasy Tip: Chiefs fans are finally getting their wish, although it was injury, and not poor play, that forced the quarterback out of the starting lineup. Cassel has already thrown nine picks with only five touchdowns in the first five games. He attempted just 15 passes in a Week 5 loss as the Chiefs were looking to play it safe with the run game, rather than have the football in his hands. Brady Quinn, who has been taking first-team reps in practice, will start in Week 6; however, he should not be considered a fantasy option. He will likely serve as no more than a game manager, particularly behind a strong running game.

Mon, 08 Oct 2012 12:28:18 -0700 Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel (concussion) has not been ruled out for Week 6 yet but it appears unlikely that he will be able to play. Fantasy Tip: If Cassel doesn't play, Brady Quinn will serve as the starter. Quinn shouldn't be trusted as a starting option unless you're extremely desperate in leagues where you start two QBs.
Mon, 08 Oct 2012 05:16:49 -0700 Kansas City Chiefs fans cheered in Week 5 when QB Matt Cassel (head) suffered a head injury and left the game. OT Eric Winston was not pleased by the crowd's reaction. "...when you cheer somebody getting knocked out, I don't care who it is, and it just so happened to be Matt Cassel, it's sickening. It's 100 percent sickening," Winston said. "I've been in some rough times on some rough teams. I've never been so embarrassed in my life to play football than at that moment right there."
